Whaleshead Beach Resort
Reviewed August 3, 2008

I found the resort through a dog friendly website after looking at several other places to stay within the area. We have two basset hounds that must go with us on all our trips. I stayed for 5 days/4 nights on July 20 to 24 with our dogs. I paid $130.00 per night plus a $10.00 pet fee. It was worth every penny.

I stayed in cabin B-11 and was very impressed with it. It was home away from home but better. It had everything I needed in the kitchen. The working gas barbecue grill was a plus .The hot tub on the deck was very private and clean. The deck was very large with a gate so the dogs were able to be outside without their leash.

The cabin had a living area with very comfortable couch, 3 individual sofa-like chairs, television and VHS/DVD player. The television was on top of a fireplace. There was a dining area with a table and 4 chairs; a small kitchen with refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker and toaster; a bathroom; a bedroom with queen size bed and television; and a loft with two twin size beds. There was ceiling fans in the bedroom and living room. The cabin had an on-demand water heater so we never had to worry about running out of hot water when we showered. The kitchen area had laminated flooring.

The seasonal creek at the back of the cabin was dry as I had expected but the forest scenery was very peaceful. There is another creek with plenty of water flowing within a few hundred feet downhill from the cabin-where the tunnel is accessible to get to the beach. Other than the tunnel, the beach is also walking distance from the cabin-if only you do not mind the uphill and downhill. My suggestion is that if you are staying for more than a day, you must try the tunnel first, next drive to the beach, then walking.

The restaurant has an amazing view of the beach. You must dine there at least once.

The mini-store is also very convenient if you don't want to drive 10-15 minutes to town. It had lots of beverages, several choices of chips, ice cream, soup & other various grocery items.

I loved the place but I think my dogs loved it better. They were able to roam leash-free at the beautiful Whaleshead Beach. The weather was perfect during our 5 days/4 nights stay. Only one day was misty in the morning-but what a beautiful scene it was to look through the cabin window from the living room. It was an absolutely relaxing and quite place to stay.

Passed through on the way to Bandon and spent one night. It's a great park with mix of cabins and rv spots. Our stay was brief but park was impressive and location was great. Took a nice walk down to whaleshead beach. Thumbs up.

We stayed for 1 night on June 27th with our dog. We paid $130.00 per night plus a $10.00 pet fee.

We stayed in Cabin B-14 which is close to the tunnel to Whaleshead Beach. We were supposed to stay in I-1 which is an ocean view cabin. Not sure what happened but we ended up being very glad for the switch. The ocean view cabins are out in the open with no shade and our cabin was set in the trees so it was nice and cool inside.

We were right by US 101 but heard absolutely no noise at all from the highway. The quiet hours are from 10:00 p.m. - 8:00 a.m. so it was extremely quiet.

We had our own little driveway in front of the cabin and it had a very large deck. Part of the deck was covered and had a nice gas grill and a table with 4 chairs. The uncovered part had a hot tub which we didn't use.

The cabin had a living area with a comfy couch, a leather recliner, stereo system and a flat screen HD TV with a VHS/DVD player. There was a dining area with a table and 4 chairs, a small kitchen, bathroom and a bedroom. There were lots of windows and 2 sliding glass doors plus a ceiling fan in the bedroom and living room so there was lots of airflow. The cabin had an on-demand water heater so we never had to worry about running out of hot water when we showered. The kitchen area had laminated flooring which is not the best when you have a dog with you – the nails clicking will drive you crazy.

The cabin was very clean. It was the one place on our 5 day, 4 night trip that our dog really felt comfortable in and she didn't seem to want to leave.

We took the tunnel to the beach and there was some standing water plus broken glass so we only took it once.

We got carry out from the restaurant on site and everything was good. We had fried mushrooms, jalepeno poppers, halibut fish and chips and a bacon-lettuce-tomato-avocado sandwich on grilled sourdough.

The staff members we had contact with were very friendly. After meeting our dog, they gave us a bunch of treats for her.

The Staff is very friendly and helpfull.
We arrived an hour early, and were taken care of immediately.

The 'Cabin' had a wonderful view.
It was clean and everything you need is provided.

The hot tub on the deck was clean and a great addition.
There was a gas barbeque that was in good shape too.

We had a very quiet and restfull stay.

Be carefull if you drive down to the beach.
The road is all but washed out and you really need a four wheel drive vehicle to get there. This is not the fault of 'Whaleshead Resort', but rather the state of Oregon. The road needs fixing.

Restful evening in a cozy little cottage with ocean view and private hot tub. This was a delightful departure from the drab motel rooms we had stayed in on our trip down the coast. We didn't have need of the complete kitchen facilities (even a dishwasher) since we only stayed one night but it was nice having a comfortable sofa in the living room, a dining room, and a big deck to eat breakfast. Individual units are owned by different people so I can only speak for our cottage. Others may vary in accommodations. The restaurant associated with the lodge was great too and even did take-out food.
