“Odd Stay”

The proprietors were apparently out of town, and a friend or perhaps a fellow resident of the home was there. It was a very strange situation. After ringing the doorbell many times and a experiencing the cycle of a dog barking, not barking, barking, we heard a call to come in. The individual had mobility challenges and had a hard time making it to the door. He was unable to show us light switches, or to aid us in trying to warm up the room. Parking was very challenging. Although there were four parking spots, none were available for guests. We ended up parking to one side of the driveway. Another option was to park on the main street, about 50 yards away.

Also staying on the premises was a person who was remodeling/redecorating the home. The combination of situations felt like we were experiencing an episode of Faulty Towers.

The room was a bedroom with an adjoining sitting room with a hide-a-bed couch. I was traveling with a co-worker and I had thought there were two bedrooms.

The breakfast was laid out, presumably by the proprietors before they left, of boxes of cereal/granola, instant oatmeal, and teas, which was adequate.

On the whole it was a very odd experience.

Management Response
Apr 4, 2016
We are sorry you had some challenges during your visit and had difficulty checking in. Arnie, our friend with MS, is undoubtedly the world's worst substitute host, perhaps because he is a retired mathematician! We are normally here to welcome you personally or we send information to take the place of our face to face greeting. We failed to do so this time. Your experience motivates us to be more diligent in this matter. We are sorry you found the description on Trip Advisor unclear. The Mermaid Suite you rented sleeps four, 2 in the bedroom and 2 on the sofa bed in the attached sitting room. We also have the Captain's Quarters upstairs, which is a separate rental. We'd like to offer you a free night's stay sometime in the future so you can see what a great job the designer did. Be assured he has now left, taking his decidedly loud dog with him. Just give us a call or send an email to let us know when you'd like to come.

This was one of the most relaxing stays that we have had in a long time. John and Nancy were superb hosts who made us feel right at home from the moment we arrived. The hot tub was relaxing and a great way to end a day at the ocean. The bed was comfortable and we slept like a baby. John and Nancy were helpful in referring us to good places to eat and sites to see. Conversation was at it's best and last but not least....Arnie was a great man with whom we also enjoyed our conversations and his company. We look forward to going back next year but plan to stay longer than two nights.

“Amazing!!!! Relaxing!!!!!!! Beautiful!!!!”
Reviewed October 10, 2015 for a stay in October 2015

We arrive on Thursday afternoon around 3. Nancy welcomed us in and gave us a tour of the house. She showed us to our room and left us to explore and settle in. We unloaded our bags in our room and checked out the private hot tube outside our sliding door. The view from our rook was of Brooking Harbour and it was the first day of salmon season. There were several boats out and the weather was perfect.
John said we can come to the main sitting room for cocktails at 5:30. We ate a very late lunch, so that sounded real good. We met then and started a great conversation that lasted into the evening. We didn't even thing of dinner, we were so relaxed and enjoyed our chat. John and Nancy brought snacks for all, which we didn't expect. We weren't even hungry, but then I realized, they didn't even have dinner because we were enjoying the company so much. We finally said good night and went to our room and out to the hot tube. We fell into bed about 11 and slept so well, listening to the waves.
Breakfast was a fab quiche and fruit with coffe and any kind of just you could imagine along with bacon.
We left for the day and returned later in the afternoon. We had cocktails again, with great conversation. We walked to dinner, and walked the short distance back. So peaceful and there were several deer running across the road we walked down. Amazing.
John convinced us to stay another day. We did....it was hard leaving this amazing place. As far as the owners, John and Nancy Adams, we became friends. I feel honored....they are so kind, gracious, generous. I will miss them a lot. I recommend this B&B very highly. Beauty, relaxation and great company. Thank you John and Nancy

After spending 10 nights in California, Oregon, and Washington we still remember John & Nancy's beautiful place and their generous hospitality. Luxurious, exceptionally clean, quiet, relaxing, and the best happy hour and breakfast on our trip. Their place is honestly the nicest by far of any B&B we have ever stayed at.

“Warm hospitality in Brookings, OR”

The gregarious host greeted us like we were family, inviting us to make ourselves at home. The guest suite reflected an eclectic taste in art, collected during the host's travels in Cuba and elsewhere. The raised bed was super comfortable, and the view from the deck was outstanding. There was also a gas fireplace, which we didn't need to use. The location is close to downtown Brookings, and the host provided us with recommendations for restaurants and activities. We had an excellent dinner at the Black Trumpet,
