“Not really by the sea, but wow what a bakery”
Reviewed February 18, 2013

My wife gets at least one ham and cheese croissant here every week and orders halvah bread specially made. It's a hole in the wall place down a long hall with just enough standing room for two people, but they bake different things all the time, most of them outstanding. My only ding is that some of their dessert items are "not too sweet." Some people like that, but desserts can never be too sweet for me.

“Bad place for a diet”
Reviewed February 3, 2013

They have really good bread, I hear. But, I've never gotten past the front cases full of sinful goodies. This is THE bakery in town and it's easy to miss it. Look for a small sandwich board out on the street when they're open. Park and walk down a long hallway. The bakery is a postage stamp place in the very back. Just room for 2 people to stand in the entrance, choose what you want, pay, and leave. They also sell at the Wednesday farmers' market at the Grange, which is often easier to get to than the bakery.

“Beware the waistline terror!”
Reviewed January 15, 2013

Wedged back at the end of a short hallway, Bakery By The Sea is a treasure that is only a little hard to find. They usually put a sandwich board out by the highway, and they have a sign over the entrance, it just doesn't look like an entrance. But persevere...it is well worth the effort.
The pastries and breads they turn out are wonderful, and when you see how small the bakery is, you marvel at how much they can produce in such a small space. They have a good clientele among the locals so it is best to get there early in the morning to have a wonderful selection. And if you don't see what you want, ask Luke, the baker, or any of the staff, it may be cooking and will be up in just a little while.

“Magicians with flour and sugar, nuts and spices!”
Reviewed August 23, 2012

A little "hole in the wall" bakery with 30-something son baking and decorating and mom at the counter. He is indeed a gifted baker and pastry chef! Only open 3 days a week, Friday through Sunday 6am-4pm. We have enjoyed his Italian ciabatta bread and his challah egg bread as well as the cinnamon raisin bread. Love those wonderful croissants filled with ham and cheese, sticky buns, pecan tarts, apple fritters and I could go on and on. What a plus for a little town in southern Oregon! If you have a sweet tooth or just love good bread, this is definitely the place to be.
