“Ready to Unplug and Relax? Go to Aspen Ridge Resort”
Reviewed January 27, 2014

For a girls weekend away, we booked four nights at the Aspen Ridge Resort not sure what to expect. What we got was an amazing and relaxing weekend away with beautiful views, friendly and fun hosts, and more things to do than we thought were possible.

This place is near nothing, which is exactly why it is so relaxing. It is easy to get lost, so write down the directions before you lose service. Also make sure you are stocked up on anything needed from the store. Once there, internet and cell reception is limited, so you can unplug and truly enjoy nature.

Steve was away for most our weekend there, but Karen was around and was an extremely friendly and gracious host. We went over a couple of times to the lodge to sit and she would visit with us. She was very informative about the area, what to do, history, etc.

We ate at the restaurant only one night because we had planned to cook the rest of the trip. Our one meal was absolutely phenomenal. Four girls shared the tri-tip dinner for two, and it was more than plenty. Everything was perfectly prepared.

Our cabins were clean and charming. Each cabin has a relaxing deck and views of the valley. The kitchen was well stocked with anything we needed to use to cook, and we cooked every night but the first. We even learned how to use a percolator, as this was the only option to make coffee. Karen assured us we could have coffee at the lodge if we weren't able to figure it out.

There is plenty to do on and around the resort other than relaxing on the deck. There are some small ponds and a couple of hiking trails. We were told we could wander off trail, so we did. We also went hiking nearby at Gearhart Mountain, which was beautiful. Karen had maps and directions, so no research prior was needed. We also went on a fun horseback ride with Larisa. She was a great guide- very laid back, fun, and full of information about the ranch and ranching in general.

This place is highly recommended if you are truly trying to get away. We hope to have the opportunity to come back at some point.

Aspen Ridge Resort is a great place to stay and eat! The food was fantastic, and the cabins were a delight. So quiet and peaceful. We had the whole place to ourselves and Karen and Steve, the owners, couldn't have been more gracious hosts. Every meal was delightful. The first night, we had tri-tip with potatoes and cowboy beans with garlic bread. I could have made a meal out of the bread it was so yummy! Breakfast was excellent as well.

Slept like a rock in the four-poster bed. My friends slept upstairs and slept well, too. Each cabin has a full kitchen with microwave, stove and refrigerator so if you didn't want to eat in the lodge, you could fix your own meals. Plenty of room for six people to sleep. I think there were two fold-out couches, one upstairs and one downstairs. The bathroom was nice with a sit-down shelf in the shower. Bring plenty of flashlights because it gets very dark after the sun goes down.

The views were spectacular. The owners have cattle which were cool to see. I would highly recommend this place for a great get-away from it all!

Every year at this time my wife and I are joined by our good friends Jack and Pat for an Outback Oregon experience. Our stay at the Aspen Ridge Resort lived up (surpassed) our expections as we enjoyed the hospitality, excellent food, great accomodations and friendly hosts. This is a place to get back in touch with Nature and yourself. Our three night stay didn't seem to be long enough and we look forward to future visits.

Room Tip: We stayed in the cabin with an exceptional view of the meadow filled with peaceful grazing cattle.

My family and I had a wonderful 3-night stay at Aspen Ridge Resort. We went fishing, hiking, played tennis and rode horses. Karen and Steve, the owners of the resort were perfect hosts providing wonderful food, great tips on what to see and where to go and providing lots of wonderful stories about life on the ranch. Lorisa, the Ranch Manager, was wonderful working with our six year old son and teaching him about horses, how to ride and take care of them. She has a natural touch with kids and clearly knows her horses and cattle. She took us all on a ride through the property to check on the cattle which was great fun, especially since there were four new calves just born! What a wonderful peak into the life of a cowboy/girl and day to day reality on a real cattle ranch. I learned so much and enjoyed every minute!

The lodge and cabins located on a 14.000 acre ranch are lovely. My husband and I spent 3 amazing nights in one of the cabins. The kitchen in the cabin was convenient for breakfasts and packing lunches for our full days of adventure. The property is well maintained and meticulous. The dinners at the lodge were very generous and wonderful. The tri-tip leftovers were perfect for the sandwiches we packed on our hikes. The wine list is very nice. After dinner cocktails in the bar with the other guests is a must! The 12 mile drive from the highway to the ranch is very scenic and filled with all kinds of wildlife...deer, beaver, coyote, bluebirds and more! The hike to Gearhart Mt is spectacular. We also enjoyed the Hart Mt National Antelope Reserve...saw lots of Pronghorn Antelope and deer. We were thrilled to find such luxury in the "Outback of Oregon". Who says you have to rough it??? My husband and I are looking forward to a return visit.

We try to visit every year since being married at Aspen Ridge Resort in 2002. Steve and Karen have created a magical experience that we have been lucky to share many times. Every time we discover something new. (Just visited the site of the only U.S. fatalities from the Japanese balloon bombs for WWII for the first time last year. Very interesting history!) We also have hauled up our off-road motorcycles and enjoyed the fire roads in the area. The tri-tip is simply the best. The cabins are super cozy. Great hiking. A great get away for a couple or the whole family. Hmmmm. Karen, I think you'll be hearing from us to make our next reservation soon... :-)

Our family of 4 stayed in a cabin at Aspen Ridge Resort for 4 nights in August 2004. We were looking for a relaxed setting, horseback riding & nice scenery. I'd looked at several guest ranches/dude ranches, but many required signing up for all meals and their riding programs were trail rides with large groups. What we loved about Aspen Ridge was that it was a vacation AND an adventure AND it was flexible. It is a working cattle ranch with a lodge & several cabins. We were able to make many of our own meals in our cabin, but had the option of eating at the lodge..and the food was OUTSTANDING!! (I'd go back just for dinner or for the pancakes at breakfast). My daughters & I will never forget riding through the meadows and hills with Lynn, John & their two dogs. Several calves were born recently and some cows were on the verge of giving birth. We watched them rope and give medicine to a cow and chase calves out of the brush & back to the herd. The horses were fabulous. My daughters are novice riders and their horses were responsive & dependable. I hadn't ridden in many years and had a great time!

This is not a typical resort in that there's no masseuse or spa or terry cloth robes. The cabins were clean, comfotable log cabins with lovely views from the porch. There's a tennis court & ping pong. It is a place to enjoy one's family, take in the scenery and really "get away from it all " (no TV in the cabins, no cell phone reception). It is about 18 miles south of Bly on a mostly paved road. It is 6-7 hrs from the Bay Area.

The Simmons family runs Aspen Ridge. They were very friendly & helpful, without being intrusive.
