From the spring that until late in the fall, Benders float morning, noon and evening. I enjoy it, but not like EVERYONE else no doubt does. The water is chilly (brisk?), so the testometer is working overtime as soon as my feet hit the water. Tie a few rafts together, pop some brews, and kick back for 20-30 minutes, letting the current do its thing. Then, get out, portage back and do it again. It is Bend's outdoor social event throughout the summer, with thousands on the water at the same time.

The Deschutes is a great River to float. There are several locations in a short distance to find different speeds from a lazy float to a little more excitement to paddle boarding or kayaking. There are even shuttle buses that run in the summer months to dip in and pick up a ride at the end to return you to your car. The city is just finishing a kayak park that should be available summer 2016.

When visiting Bend in the summers we LOVE to "float the river"! It's cold but not too cold, very invigorating yet calming. You can get in at the Century Dr. bridge and float past the condo's and dog park all the way to Drake Park now. In summer Bend Transit provides a bus at the end of your float that will take you back to the Mill District parks.

You can float or SUP - which doesn't mean Sup beer while you are floating - it does mean Stand Up Paddle Board. next summer the White water rafting/kayakng will be open!

There is nothing this river doesn't offer.....beauty, serenity in some parts, excitement in others, recreational opportunities, cooling off on a hot day and fishing. We rented a home on the river and experienced every single one of the above!
