We were loyal locals who enjoyed the ambiance and setting of Gregs Grill. The interior architecture of the building itself is beautiful and it's west facing big windows allow any seat inside beautiful views of the Deschutes river and Mt Bachelor. My wife and I were regulars, until recently. We mostly enjoyed a couple drinks and appetizers and the dinner entry's are pricey and inconsistent. The appetizers became very inconsistent. Steamed clams were our favorite. One day there would be 9 small clams, another day there'd be a near heaping bowl w/ almost 2 dozen. Needless to say, when we'd order them again were were disappointed at a skimpy portion. Last summer, we were in having martini's. We know our vodka. Our martini's came out with a well vodka (asked for Grey Goose) and sent it back. We actually heard the waitress talk with the bartender talking about us, pointing in our direction. She brought the same drinks back and said 'these were made right'. We insisted they re pour new drinks. Second time around they were corrected.
The most recent (this past Christmas season) we had family in town and brought them out for dinner. After being seated we waited for 15 minutes to even talk to our waitress who took our drink order. As we waited, we could see our drinks ready at the bar for 10 minutes as we scanned the restaurant for our waitress. After waiting, someone else brought our drinks by, not knowing who ordered what. All our dinners turned out overcooked and dry (the meat/fish entries) and our uncle's pasta was very greasy, with pools of oil. The manager was great, agreed our food was likely sitting on the line/heat light too long and apologized, recognizing that the food was not acceptable. He comp'd our dinners which was not necessary because we ate some of it and our waitress took forever to come by and check on the entries. Once the manager was involved, our waitress vanished. So, after sending the dinners back, we decided to just have another drink and enjoy the evening. Took another long wait to get a second drink ordered, then waited forever. We just wanted a bill at this point. We finally said 'we're outta here' and began getting up when suddenly our waitress appeared. Not with drinks but with our check. I asked her 'what happened' and she was rude. With our dinners comp'd we still spent $160 on appetizers, drinks, wine. She was in line for a great tip if she just did her job.
We will not be going back. We will miss the view and the building, but not the service.
