Reminded me so much of Catholic grade school days, the main hallway could have been my grade school! Lots of character, great pub, close to blocks and blocks of restaurants if you want to venture out and eat elsewhere. Wish we known in advance about the movie theater, check it out but get a seat early, and get chair side service throughout a show! And don't miss the Turkish bath!

Every decision they made when designing this place was a good one! We loved the movie theatre, the soaking pool, and our room. The staff was helpful and nice and the food and beer was good. We enjoyed it so much we had dinner at the McMenamin's North Bank when we were in Eugene.

Room Tip: We stayed in the Cameron room. I don't know if decor differs in other rooms.

Another McMenamin creation. This time outside of the Portland area. Great location, atmosphere and food. Small, unfriendly room with crawling on hands and knees to find outlets to plug in electronics, a shower with no lip to contain water and worst of all a heating system that sounds like a Boeing 737 taking off - all night long. Only the rattle of the garbage trucks interrupted the heater noise. The nuns were probably quite strict with the children at the St Francis school with few amenities. That tradition continues with hotel guests.

Room Tip: Have a meal here but get a room in one of the modern chain hotels west of town

This a quaint artistic inn...the pool is worth the stay...not a swimming pool but a large soaking pool that is tiled in beautiful aquamarine colors...funky art...alot of amenities...ale house and restaurant very good bakery items..a pizza theatre..the rooms are funky too.but we stayed in the artist house which was a very cute cottage across from another little house that had a bar in it.which had fire pits outside and chairs...and great music...so this was very unexpected and we really enjoyed this in our traveling tour of Oregon...

Room Tip: Go with a cottage if you can

Our friend mentioned this place to us before our trip. We stayed one night at McMenamins Old St. Francis School. It was a terrific experience. The room was an old classroom converted into a bedroom and bathroom. There was even a book shelf with some old books. Room was a good size and very clean. The hallway had the original water fountain. There is a movie theater where you can order pizza and beer when while watching the movie on comfy chairs!! The Turkish bath is another awesome place to enjoy your night..... The restaurant had great food too.

We've never had more fun in a hotel than this!!!

We spent two nights here as part of a recent vacation and really enjoyed our stay. Despite the number of amenities - 2 indoor bars, theater, soaking pool, outdoor bar, 4 separate rentable cottages (did not visit any of these), an on-site brewery, we drove right past the unassuming buildings trying to find the place.

Our check-in was very welcome (service was great overall) and accommodated several room changes as we looked for a firmer mattress, which did not reveal itself. The rooms are all spacious, have great wood paneling, full tiled bathrooms with walk-in showers & a cozy ambience. As it turned out, the squishy mattress had more support than we thought, so we slept well. There are also coat pegs by the door that with the large wardrobe, came in very handy.

The outdoor space is very accommodating, with fire pits & excellent bar service. The soaking pool is well thought out, with great tile work & decor, and has an open-air roof. Being a small town, it is close to all the downtown attractions, and I suppose you could even walk to lifestyle center, the Old Mill District.

Room Tip: Ask for the main building if just a couple.

We arrived at Mcmenamins St. Francis School to the smell of great food, and found out way to our King Room. The room was large with 2 soaking tubs, two showers, but not the greatest light for a bathroom (hard for woman to do make-up). Food in the restaurant was great, tasty, although service a bit slow. We moved to a second queen room the second night and although not as palatial, it was also very comfortable and more than adequate - comfy beds, pillows, etc. Great bartender who made awesome drinks.

Overall ambience was great, rooms clean, comfortable, and good size. Restaurant good, wonderful Turkish Bath great for soaking with gorgeous Italian tile frescos of St. Francis and various colorful settings (i.e. grape making, wheat harvesting etc.)...McMenamins is a destination and should be experienced. Be aware it's expensive, but worth it...

What would have made it 5 stars? Better parking availability (lot often full); more light in the bathrooms and magnifying mirror; bit more creative food preparation; include breakfast in the cost.

Room Tip: Great "destination" hotel - spent two days!
