We would give it 6 stars if we could. The place is immaculately clean and well kept. Don is very thoughtful to include incidental items such as soap, shampoo, yoga mat, to go coffee cups and even a state forest parking pass. Don also had great recommendations on places to eat and see. Beautiful garden and lawn to enjoy. Lovely spot. Can't wait to go back!

We would love to have a six star rating but alas, 5 will have to do. Thank you. Marline and I diligently work to ensure the Cottage is immaculate for each guest and provide the “little things” travelers would not expect. Our philosophy is that our customers’ time in Bend is finite. We try to make that limited time more efficient by providing the Northwest Forest and Oregon snow parking permits. The Cottage is stocked with a generous supply of condiments, spices, coffee and a selection of teas. Other “little things” include a day pack, small lunch size cooler and a larger ice chest. One will find beach towels and even make-up removal towelettes (saves the 4 sets of high quality wash clothes and towels  ). When a traveler makes a reservation, we a detailed list of amenities to assist them with trip planning and packing. Many Cottagers have commented that getting the list really helps reduce the number of items which they might have packed. We also hear many comment on the quality of the linens; all 600 thread count and above. Please do come back and spend much more time in our little piece of heaven.

“Best vacation ever at Second Street Cottage!”
Reviewed July 19, 2016 for a stay in July 2016

We loved every minute of our two weeks at Second Street Cottage. The house itself is absolutely beautiful - perfectly clean and fitted out to the highest standard, there was everything in it that we needed and more. Having our own bit of garden (complete with resident deer, Gladys and her 2 babies!) was fantastic and the location couldn't be better either - only 5 minutes walk from downtown Bend, but so peaceful and quiet.
We had said that this would be our fifth and final visit to Bend, but after discovering this gem we know we will be back! Don and Marline are the perfect hosts - so friendly and attentive, and nothing was too much trouble - they made it feel like a home from home and we feel lucky to have made such wonderful friends.

Thank you Gareth and Sarah for your business and great review. You mentioned this was your 5th visit to Bend but did not say that you come from the UK. As seasoned international travelers, your testimonial is even more insightful. While we cannot promise that deer will be see during a visit, we do promise the Cottage will be exceptionally clean and appointed with quality furnishings. We are blessed with a convenient downtown location which is secluded and retreat like. Marline and I look forward to your next visit and friendship. DonP

“Perfect vacation accomodations!”
Reviewed July 11, 2016 for a stay in June 2016

Don communicated thoroughly prior to our arrival and also gave us a personal guided tour of the accommodations. He had already prepared an extensive descriptive guidebook which detailed how to operate all the appliances and how to utilize them for maximum benefit. The accommodations were pristine, well kept and very nice. Don also provided a National Parks parking pass which we used numerous times during our stay as we visited many parks and forest lands in the area. His attention to detail was very evident and our stay was trouble free and very enjoyable. I recommend him and the accommodations very highly!

Thank you Ken for writing such a detailed review. Marline and I believe one's vacation begins with planning and to assist our guests, we send several documents like a detailed list of the amenities one can expect upon arrival. The more information and items we can provide, the less one needs to pack or have concern. While the Northwest Forest pass is handy, it is also a time saver for our Cottagers. Same with a large selection of spices and condiments. A guest need not waste limited "play time" chasing down a parking pass or coffee creamer.. The cottage even has two sizes of coolers for a picking lunch or big day trip. Come see us again soon. DonP

Glad you enjoyed your stay Amanda. While the Cottage is primarily used as a short term rental during the summer months and holiday season, it is well suited for long term stays. We have many whom have stayed 1-6 months and all say they would return. Thank you for mentioning that is just a few (5) minute walk to downtown. The gem of the property is that it is secluded and quiet, even while so close to downtown. Marline and I would love to have you return.

“Home Away from Home”

I have stayed at the Second Street Cottage on multiple occasions when I visit Bend for my work. I usually stay for 4 or 5 days, and it is such a wonderful retreat after a long day at the office. This time, I was joined by my husband who fell in love with both Bend and the cottage.

I can promise you that this place will exceed every expectation you have for a vacation rental. Every detail has been thought of, from yoga mats to "to go" coffee cups! I have always been most impressed by how well stocked the kitchen is. There are sufficient pots, pans, utensils and dishes to cook for a crowd. There is a BBQ grill out on the patio for the use of the guests. In addition, unlike other rental owners, Don keeps a stock of basic pantry items for guests' use. It's so nice to know that I don't have to buy or bring things like salt and pepper!

For a frequent traveler like me, beds and bathrooms are important, and the cottage's facilities do not disappoint. Comfortable bed and bedding, luxurious and ample towels, and a hairdryer, make-up mirror and assorted bath/shower products mean you don't have to pack that stuff!

In the nice weather, the absolute best part of the cottage is the patio. I could spend all day out there watching the deer and the birds (and the cat!) and admiring Don and Marline's gardens. There is also a gas heater out there for the chilly evenings. Did I mention Don has thought of everything? :)

This has become my Bend "home away from home" and unless it is booked, I won't stay anywhere else.

Some Bend tips: In the warm weather, do not miss the Farmers Market downtown. It's one of the nicest I've been to. On this trip, we went up to Pronghorn and had drinks at their bar. It's a beautiful place. Finally, right up the street from the Cottage is Newport Market, which is a gorgeous (if pricey) grocery store. It was a great place to pick up some wine, marinated meats and pre-made salads on the night we decided we didn't want to cook.

We just stayed at the 2nd St. Cottage for the first time. Four adults, two nights. What a find! Priced better than any Bend hotel suite with all of the amenities plus! One of the many pluses was the attention and hospitality of the owner/host. It's obvious that they have tried to think of everything, and they've done a great job! I wasn't able to think of any needs that weren't already available in the cottage, but I have every confidence that our host would have provided.
Within a few blocks from Bend's vibrant downtown, yet quietly tucked into a serene neighborhood.
This will be the go to spot for our frequent decompression weekends in Bend. Until word gets out! Truly the benchmark for rentals. Highly recommended. Thanks for a great weekend.

Thank you for taking the time to recognize our work. Marline and I do strive to exceed our Cottagers' expectations. Your review validates that effort and recharges our batteries to continuously improve the guest experience. Spring and Summer is the time we focus on the gardens which add much "living" space to the retreat like setting. Do come see us again.

As first time Bend visitors, we really didn't know what to expect, however, from the moment we booked this beautiful cottage, we knew our accommodations would be amazing. We weren't disappointed! From the ideal location just a few blocks from downtown, to the lovely decor, to each room being fully stocked with every needed item, this is truly a home away from home. Don is so knowledgeable about activities and dining in the Bend area, which was really helpful to my husband and me in deciding where to go. We appreciated the personal element he brings to the cottage rental process and this is a huge reason why we will be return customers. If you are looking for a wonderful place to call home while you're in Bend, look no further than this wonderful cottage!

Thank you for the glowing review. Marline and I are always pleased to read our “Cottagers” had a great lodging experience. And thank you for taking such good care of the Cottage. Our goal is to anticipate and provide for guest needs. We believe the lodging experience can be so much more than just providing clean linens and a place to sleep. Thanks for noticing. Do come back soon and enjoy the Cottage and extended outdoor living during warmer weather. Winter is also a great time to visit and enjoy the serenity of the peaceful grounds. We cannot guarantee that the deer will visit but they usually do.
