“Great Suites!”
Reviewed September 26, 2012

We stayed 4 nights in a very spacious suite, room 202, with a private balcony about 8x8 that easily contained a table and four chairs. The furnishings and carpeting all appear new, and were in a sophisticated nuetral palette that was very attractive. The kitchen has only a mini fridge and microwave, but does have a sink and counter and cupboards. The separate reasonably spacious bedroom had it's own flat screen tv and temperature control. The bedding was first rate and the mattress very comfortable. Our room was on the end with a big window in the bedroom that did open, but cooking smells from the restaurant downstairs meant we left the window closed. We did hear freight trains in the distance at night, so light sleepers might be annoyed, but I suspect all hotels in Bend may hear the trains, as the tracks seem to circle outside of the town. The view of the river is rather distant, and not what I imagined at all. Our view was almost 100% obscured by the smokestacks in the repurposed all mill below the hill, that marks the upscale and very convenient Old Mill District shops and restaurants. It was disappointing initially, but interesting in it's own way. The restaurant is average at best, especially for vegans and vegetarians. Canned fruit for breakfast buffet, no non-diary milk choices, and oatmeal served with fruit cut up days and days ago, that had turned sour. (it was replaced with apologies with truly fresh strawberries, but with canned blueberries!) The restaurant is open to the lobby, so the smell of bacon permeates the main floor as you exit elevator. Swimmers do leave puddles of water at elevator doors. Still location above Old Mill is very convenient and the rooms are first rate. We had a group rate of $149 for Leadman race, as this was race hotel, but nothing was done for the athletes, not even coffee available before our shuttles that left at 4:30 a.m. Directions from front desk staff were as good as from a concierge, and they were exceedingly amenable to special requests, like U.P.S. Shipping.

Room Tip: Ask for upper floor on the opposite end of the hotel from the restaurant for better views, possibly...

We went for a weekend stay as a jumping off point to visit Crater Lake. The rooms are very clean and comfortable. The pool and hot tub are well maintained and comfortable. Access to the shops and restaurants along Powerhouse Drive is within an easy walk. At night, there happened to be bands playing nearby the river, which can make the rooms noisy. The hotel was full while we were there and we heard absolutely no noise from the adjacent rooms. The only noise was from outside the hotel. We had a 3rd floor room overlooking the river. Very nice view!

Room Tip: Try for a 3rd floor room overlooking the river.

Very nice Hilton with the American Grill inside. The Grill has a bar with a small menu and reasonable prices. The Hilton is located within walking distance to the Old Mill District with several shops and restuarants. The pool and hot tub are open 24 hours. Very nice, clean, comfortable, quiet, and safe location. Get a Deshutes River view if you can. Paved walking/biking paths available right out of the hotel down to the river. Paths run along both sides of the river. Lots of paddle boarders and kayaks floating down with the ducks and geese. I would definitly stay here again.

Room Tip: Try and get a Deshutes River view.

This is a exceptionally nice Garden Inn. The lobby is decorated with fine woods and has space and furnishing for business or pleasure uses. Room decor, condition and cleanliness were outstanding. Nice location next to a pleasant shopping mall in the Old Mill District. Several good restaurants are located within walking distance in the mall. Staff members we dealt with at HGI were very nice and extremely helpful. Definitely recommended for a comfortable stay off the beaten downtown path. Not a drive-by stop as you have to know the address to find the place if you are not familiar with Bend.

Room Tip: Request a river view room and balcony. Higher floors provide nice views although ours was impacted...

This is an existing hotel that was converted to a Garden Inn. The rooms are large and ours had a river view and two bedrooms. Last time we stayed we had a spa tub with it's own TV. The staff was great and, while there were plenty of good restaurants in walking distance, we had good breakfasts and a good dinner in the hotel dining room. Would definitely recommend and stay there again

Room Tip: Ask for river view w balcony, or a spa tub

This hotel was fabulous! Great location, right behind the Old Mill District which has shopping, restaurants, movie theatre, etc. There is a path running along the river which is great for walking, running or you can rent bikes there as well. Room was very nice with great view of river and mountains. Breakfast wasn't included, but reasonably priced and much better than the standard breakfast included at hotel such as Best Westerns and Holiday Inns!!
We will definitely be back and stay longer to check out more of the Bend area.

We had two nights in the area. Originally we were deciding between a hotel in Redmond and the Hilton Garden Inn. There was a $40 difference per night between the two but we were very glad we went with the HGI in Bend. Our room was excellent. It had a King size bed with Jacuzzi and a balcony that overlooked the river. The location (once you found the place) worked out just fine. It was nice to be able to park the car after a long day and walk down to the restaurants in the Mill District directly below. The hotel had just transitioned from an Ameritel to the Hilton Garden Inn and there were some bumps. We made our reservation when the hotel was still an Ameritel and breakfasts were included (I don't believe that breakfasts are currently included if you book under HGI.) . If it wasn't included I wouldn't have purchased it. The food quality was typical breakfast quality and the entire process is inefficient. It was a sit down breakfast but the made to order food was quite slow to come out. I think the process would be much better if it were like the Embassy suites where you go up to the hot food bar and place your order directly. On the other hand, our server was excellent and attentive. She saw that we were inconvenienced by the long wait. She had her manager come over and she went way above and beyond to make things right. We appreciated that customer service. On our second morning, the breakfast came out much quicker. In the end, we did enjoy our stay very much and would stay here again when we visit the area.

Room Tip: Ask for one facing the river.
