Barrio is a real find. It's small and they only reserve about half of the restaurant so there can be a bit of wait but it is definitely worth it. The food is just amazing - creative, fresh, delicious. We were so impressed with the menu, especially the number of vegetarian (or vegetable-heavy) options. The cocktails are fun and the sangria was surprisingly good (most places use the lowest grade wine but this was quite good).
We ate at the bar which was the right choice - Bend is such a friendly town that the people next to us (regulars) recommended all the right things: the tacos (especially the carnitas!; the fish ones aren't as good), the green beans (oh yum!) and a kind of lentil (?) cake with fresh shrimp on top and a fantastic salsa. So yummy! If we had found this place on the first night of our trip, we would not have eaten anywhere else. We'll be back for sure.

“Small but worth the hassle to get in”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 4, 2014

We've been stymied by the crowds since this opened (part of living in small city with limited good dining options and tons of tourists) but finally snuck in early recently. Don't know why it took us so long to pull this trick because we've been missing out. Small dining room and it's loud but in a good way. More than just about all of the other places in town Barrio would fit right in regardless of what large West Coast foodie city you put it in. And it would compete on food quality. While the menu offers entree size portions of many of the items this is really a tapas spot. As such we took advantage of their special--any seven tapas for $62. It was a steal of a deal. Three hungry mouths fed, with drinks, for under a $100. All seven dishes were great and unlike anything else you will find in Central Oregon. It isn't the latest, greatest tapas fresh from some chef's Barcelona sabbatical but we will be braving the crowds or sneaking in for a late lunch/early dinner from now on.

“Authentic & Tasty”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 9, 2014

Went in on a weekend for lunch and were seated immediately. It is a small restaurant and can be loud at times. Service was fast and attentive. Food is appropriate portions and authentic. Was a nice change from the many American restaurants in Bend.

“We'll be back!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 24, 2014

Finally was able to get in - given it's always busy! It's small and funky, but don't let that fool you. Our waiter was fun, and very helpful as we tried to decide among so many delicious choices. We settled on two small plates, and split a paella. It was the perfect amount of food, offering an array of flavors - - lots of oohs and awes from our table.
