El Rancho Grande looked almost brand new. We had a few dishes but their albondigas soup (mexican meatballs) was a serious disappointment. Besides getting charged around $10 for each large serving, the soup tasted watery with no real mexican flare, no skills shown on this one. We also had an avocado salsa made in from of us where they use one and a half avocados, plus onions, cilantro, and jalapeňos and it was tasty but once again we felt, overly expensive.
They did present different colors tortillas chips and they tasted very warm and fresh. Had a quesadilla plate (nothing to write home about) and some carnets tacos.
Overall the place was decent but the final numbers made us cringe a little bit. The servers were warm and hospitable and this place is located in a mall area, that looked also almost new. Apparently people in Bend, Oregon, are not missing any of the modern looks the newer malls have. According to the prices this place is not very economical but we saw lots of people about.
El Rancho Grande gets a decent 3 Stars, mostly for that guacamole salsa prepared at ringside. Very tasty. All other food needs to be revised by a more competent cook. 3 Stars.
