Thanks for writing a review of the Museum.
Lots to do here. Very interesting exhibits about the high desert. I really enjoyed seeing the bird of prey talks and photographed the bald eagle and owls. I was looking forward to the otter exhibit but it was closed. There's lots to do and learn here, I would plan on staying at least two hours. This way you can squeeze in two lectures. Do check the schedule of talks before so you can make the most of your trip.
Great suggestion on checking the daily schedule to fit in some lectures or wildlife encounters while viewing the rest of the exhibits. Thanks for the great review, too.
We love the High Desert Museum and all it has to offer. Great time for the family. A must see when visiting Central Oregon.
Thanks for your great review!
The High Desert Museum grew from one man's dream to become an interesting destination for a half day or longer. It tells the story of the Oregon high desert with a combination of exhibits and native plants and animals and informed guides. One of our highlights was the raptor show by two biologists and a free-flying raptor. Wonderful.
Thank you for your great review. Our founder, Donald Kerr, had a vision and the desire to make the Museum a reality. The focus on the natural and cultural history of the High Desert is exemplified in the exhibits, wildlife and living history programs at the Museum.
We loved all the indoor activities and animals. The day we went was a "free" day. It was cold and snowy outside. I stayed inside while my husband and 2 teen kids went outside to brave the elements and look at the exhibits and all of the animals on display. We have been here several times and plan on going again!
Thank you for your great review. Depending upon the weather, there are indoor and outdoor exhibits that are great to take in. Visit the Museum's calendar on the website for upcoming free days or special programs and events.
This museum is awesome! Every so often they have a family day and everyone gets in free! They have live animal interactions with amazingly knowledgeable staff. They exhibits are beautiful. Well worth the visit!
Thank you for your excellent review. The Museum offers discounts to AAA members and military families and personnel in the summer. There are several free days each year and our Discovery Passes can be checked out from the Deschutes Public Library - lots of ways to visit the Museum!
