This museum has a little bit of something for everyone. The architecture is really cool, the live animals (a rescued bobcat, a lynx, a young otter, owls, eagles...) are awesome, the outdoor open-air homestead is authentic and interesting, and the indoor exhibits are well-designed. I especially liked the re-created silver mine and pioneer town, where the sound effects really added to the experience! I did notice that some of the exhibits seemed a little one-sided in their presentation of history, and you can get lost since some exhibits are inside the main building while others are outside or in the otter building, but if you have an afternoon to wander, this is a great spot.

I had to take a taxi there from bend, 25.00 one way, which made the museum very expensive...so just okay.

Can't beat the price. Was very informative. Didn't go out in their nature area cause I ran out of time too. Very friendly staff.

Did not expect such and incredible museum "out there". Everything about this museum is exceptional including entrance fees. We attended one of the tours and the tour guide was knowledgeable and entertaining. Their treatment/exhibit of the high plain Indian culture was honest and not fairy tale like some museums. They told it like it was both perspectives. We ran out of time and will return.

When we first explored the High Desert Museum we had no idea what to expect. We were in the area so we decided to stop in. To our surprise we ended up spending more than a few hours exploring. There was so much to see, 135 forested acres of animals, artful exhibits and meaningful history. Indoor and outdoor exhibits, wildlife presentations and hands-on programs for the entire family.

We have been back many times and are planning another visit. This museum is worth the trip to the Bend area. Plan on spending more than a couple of days in this area. One day at the museum is not enough and there are plenty of other sites to visit in the area.
