“Great Vibe”
Reviewed July 17, 2012

The strip mall, south 3rd street exterior location of TOMO doesn't provide much inspiration. But, once inside this place has a hip vibe, great service and quality sushi.

“Better than expected”
Reviewed June 13, 2012

I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food and presentation. We started off with a small salad with a vinegar dressing and slices of strawberries. It was very refreshing. Some sashimi came next. It was a special menu item that night and it was top quality... rich in color and buttery soft. We're used to eating grated daikon (radish) with sashimi but this dish was garnished with brilliant red grated beets and they worked nicely together. Next we ordered tamago and tombo sushi and both were excellent. For us the signature of a good asian restaurant is well prepared rice. It can't be crunchy (undercooked) or too mushy (over cooked). The rice was perfectly prepared and fresh at Tomo as well as correctly handled (whole grain, not crushed/mashed while being mixed). The sushi had only a hint of wasabi allowing the customer to season as they see fit. Next came a dinner bento which came with generous portions. Unfortunately, the teriyaki steak I got was a bit chewy. But the gyoza was hot and very tasty. Again, the rice and all the side dishes including the vegetable tempura and the maki zushi included with the bento were well prepared. My companion had teriyaki chicken which was very well prepared and tasty. Finally, as a thank you, the sushi chef created a beautiful fruit dessert with very thinly cut apple slices and fresh chunks of orange in a beautiful, artistic arrangement. The only other issue we had at dinner was the lack of natto. Every good sushi restaurant should offer natto sushi. This was a small sacrifice, however, in exchange for an exceptional meal.

“Great sushi and bento lunches”
Reviewed February 19, 2012

Don't miss the Bento Lunch and the sushi. Nice homey atmosphere although you would not expect it from the location. Excellent service. Very reasonable prices.

“Best price for great sushi”
Reviewed January 22, 2012

When we crave good sushi we go to Tomo. It is reasonably priced and the sushi is fresh and always tasty. We also love their Gyoza and several other dishes they have. We have never been disappointed. My kids also love that they have a little room in the back that is authentic Japanese where you take your shoes off and sit on the floor

“Getting better and busier as time goes on- still pretty weird hours”
Reviewed December 9, 2011

I didn't like this restaurant at first- the food seemed uninspired and their specific lunch/dinner ONLY hours, while closing in the afternoon, made sure I didn't make it here very often.

However, recently I have ordered their sushi a couple times and true what others say- its tastier and bigger cuts than many other much "fancier" Japanese places I have been to. They are also starting to get quite crowded for 1/2 price sushi mondays, which I think is a good sign for the food.

I have also starting trying different entrees and I have become really impressed with the ramens. Very large portions and quite flavorful while still feeling light. The char sui ramen is my new favorite. You will be surprised to find out this is a Japanese restaurant operated by Cantonese people, but things like char sui on the menu help you figure it out.

Service is always very fast for takeout, even if the dining room is packed. I just wish they would stay open for that silly 3 hour period between lunch and dinner!
