We stayed at the Lara House for one night in early September while on a road trip around Oregon. The B&B is ideally located, on a quiet residential street, next to pretty Drake Park and within a couple of minutes walk into the charming town.
The house is lovely, with a big, inviting front porch. Sara, the inn keeper, was very friendly and gave us a great restaurant recommendation for dinner that was a short 5 minute walk from the B&B. I enjoyed the fresh-baked cookies sitting in the living room.
We stayed in the Summit Room, which is on the top floor and includes a sitting room. Also, it has two TVs with two DVD players. (DVDs are available in the living room.)
We enjoyed the spaciousness of the room and found it comfortable and inviting. We would choose this room again. But there are two reasons that may dissuade some from selecting this particular room. 1. You have to carry luggage up two flights of stairs. 2. The suite has a lot of angled ceilings so someone who is tall would have to duck while moving between the bedroom and sitting room.
Before breakfast, we strolled around Drake Park and the appealing neighborhood. Breakfast was served out on the back deck or in the sun room. The food was plentiful. We couldn't eat the mega-muffins since we were full, so Sara put them in zip-locked bags so that we could enjoy them later in the day.
Bottom line: I loved the Lara House B&B and the town of Bend. The B&B has a perfect location, situated on a quiet residential street, next to lovely park and within a short walk to the shops and restaurants of Bend. I recommend it heartily.
