I had dined at a Black Bear Diner before so my expectations were high. I came for breakfast and was not disappointed. I had a Denver omelet. The omelet came and it was huge, the biscuit had to have been five inches tall, and the thick cut hash browns were crispy as requested. I was unable to finish the entire meal it was so large. It was an excellent meal.

Keeping a team of a dozen hungry Europeans happy first thing is a tall order. The Black Bear passed the test with ease.
Food is excellent, service fast and very friendly. They look to get you exactly what you want, no efforts to upsell. And they keep everyone happy.
It's a really good menu, which offers plenty of variety, plenty of food and very good value.
The restaurant is clean as are the rest rooms. Parking no issue.
This is a great place to eat and we all agreed we'd be back.

Each time we return to Bend we go to the Black Bear Diner. The food is always good and the staff friendly. The portions are very large so come prepared to eat or perhaps order one of their smaller portions. We will definitely be back.

hubby and I are vacationing and wanted to go to dinner somewhere relaxed and inexpensive. Black Bear seemed right up our ally. The hostess sat us quickly and a minute or two in, our server dropped off some water and said she was going to get another tables order than be back for ours. So far so good. Now, we are used to having to wait but this was ridiculous. we sat there and watched our server at the billing station(?) for about 10 minutes which was annoying but still not horrible. what was horrible was the way she would bark at the hostess quite loudly as she was about to seat a family, complaining that she already had 3 tables. I have never been a server so that may be a lot but still. The restaurant was not too full and there were other servers. Then the hostess had a woman and two children that wanted to sit by the bears at the counter. The server told them that it was fine but she had two tables ahead of them, glanced at us, then said oh wait, three. With that attitude and what seems like poor time management skills, we decided to leave. She saw us get up, and asked happily "Are you guys leaving?" we said yes and she said ok then. No apology, have a nice day, nothing. We were so glad we left.

When you ski the quadrafecta at mt. Hood & Mt. Bachelor you need bear sized meals: (day1. cat skiing on Palmer glacier at Timberline 2. trash bag day at the Meadows 3. white out day on Bachelor 4. Bachelor BLUE sky & powder on last day. ) Sit at the counter next to Mama & baby bear (lift baby bear down so a toddler can hug & kiss 'em) Try the pecan encrusted trout with super creamy mashed taters & lotsa veggies & salad. Top it off with the black or huckleBEARy cobbler. YUM !! Finally take the placemat home to laminate and use till your return. What a fun place.
