“Great river view room, large, comfortable beds, 2 sinks which is great”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 1, 2013

The large room with 2 beds was great. Quiet, comfortable beds, clean. I love hotels that have the sink outside of the bathroom, and this Shilo Inn had 2 sinks. Super. Very spacious. Great bath products. Great food options for breakfast, although unfortunately, the eggs werent so good. No fresh, tasty options..this Shilo had amazing staff which we loved! This Shilo would be great with better hot tea/hot water/coffee at the front office. I would stay here again when in Bend again and I would recommend this hotel to anyone. Great price too.

Room Tip: Ask for a room by the river

The grounds of this hotel are beautiful. The fridge and microwave were nice. The patio would have been nice but it was too cold to be outside. The bathroom was clean and appeared to be recently renovated. The fireplace did not work. The bedding was bad. There was dog hair in the sheets, the comforter appeared to be a decade old, and the blanket was lumpy. If the blanket was a decade old, the TV was 3 decades old. Screen quality was not good, time to be replaced.
The breakfast buffet was very pleasant. Eggs, potatoes, sausages, cereal, yogurt, pancakes, etc.

Room Tip: Ask for a top floor. The person above started pacing their room at 6am and kept me awake.

Dear ILOVEMX#,

Thank you for your feedback. It is great to hear about what you liked about your stay and what we can do better. A few of the things that you mentioned about your stay were not up to Shilo standards. I will be bringing the comments to the attention of our maintenance and housekeeping staff. Thank you again for taking the time to send your comments. We hope to see you in the future.

Sincerely,

I was impressed with the Shilo overall and would not hesitate to stay there again. For well under $100 (AAA rate) we got a comfortable, well equipped suite with a very useful kitchenette, a gas fireplace, and enough room to have a wonderful impromptu Christmas get-together for a family of five. The breakfast buffet was wonderful, with some of the best potatoes I've ever eaten. The staff was friendly and accommodating; several last minute changes to our group's itineraries were cheerfully accommodated. The indoor pool, hot tub and sauna were really nice. A few negatives: The rooms are very dark. We didn't realize the hotel had numerous buildings and is very spread out, which could lead to a several-minute walk to go for a swim in the indoor pool (not nice if it's 20 degrees out) if you're given a room in the 100 building. And the TV was antiquated, had very few channels, and put in a place where it was unwatchable from the bed. Fortunately, we brought our laptop and the WiFi worked perfectly, so we used that instead for entertainment -- problem solved. Overall, we found the Shilo very pleasant and the positives far outweighed the negatives for the price. The river views are also very nice, even if we didn't take advantage of them much with the frigid December weather.

The Shilo Inn in Bend has become an orphan of sorts. The Riverhouse next door has recently opened (within the last five years maybe isn't really recent) a very nice convention center and has effectively taken the over 100 attendee convention business away from most other places in Bend. We attend a convention at the Riverhouse convention center each year but we stay at the Shilo because their rates are better for equal rooms plus they give a very generous discount to veterans. They offer a fairly well done breakfast buffet but it somewhat depends upon which employee is in charge because some are better than others at keeping the food warm. This time we had three of us in two rooms for three nights. Two of the breakfast mornings were great but the third was flawed by cold eggs and cold pancakes. The front desk issues breakfast tickets for each room for each day so you have to go there each day to get your tickets. That's not really an inconvenience because you also have to go there to get your newspaper which they no longer deliver to the rooms. The Bend Bulletin charges 75 cents for their daily in the vending machines. In the rooms, the wifi is free but our laptop linked up with some other wifi system which had no virus protection. I only know that because my laptop wanted to make sure that I was willing to have every bad thing in the world happen if I used it, so I searched around and found the Shilo's own wifi system. We have not been there during ski season so they may be very much more busy then. On the weekend of December 7,8,9 there were only about six tables occupied at breakfast and three of those were by people who were attending the same meetings we were. On Friday they offer a special on a prime rib dinner. There were two tables occupied while we were there. Overall, the Shilo is clean and the staff is helpful and courteous. We were cheerfully granted early check-in. You might want to request a second floor room because if ceiling noise bothers you, you will be bothered.

Room Tip: The river view rooms are only worth paying for if you want to sit out and enjoy the river. When it...

Dear Jon E,

Thank you for coming and staying with us during your trips to Bend. We are located next to The Riverhouse and Convention Center. The Riverhouse was opened in 1974 and the Shilo Inn was built on 1988. It was originally the Touch of Class Hotel and Shilo purchased it in 1993. Thank you for telling us about your breakfast. I will speak to the chef about your experience.
We do hope to see you at the Shilo Inn again next year.

Only stayed one night but the staff were really good. Hotel grounds were very plesant although our room was fairly dated. It was huge however, especially for the money and was a proper suite with living are, fireplace and kitchen which was nice. Room smelt a bit of gas on arrival which was a bit worrying but cleared quite quickly.

Location is pretty good if you have a car, most things are a short drive. The breakfast was good but we were pretty early and it seemed like things were only just getting going so we had a short wait for a few bits.

Definitely recommended overall though. Especially for the price.
