We tried out the Black Bear Diner in Beaverton in hopes of finding great food and service. What we found was a restaurant that served bland food. Soggy and lukewarm friends, soggy steamed vegetables and a bland chicken friend steak, thanks mainly to the gravy.

The tasty main had to be the steak, which was favorable. But the salad was welted, steamed vegetables were sorry and the corn bread was dry.

And to top all this off, our waiter was slow and exceedingly indifferent. It took 15 minutes for us to get the bill after asking for our tab. And never once did he ask if we needed a to go box, even though most of our food was left on the plate.

In short, I will not be going back. And would suggest you go elsewhere. Even Denny's beats the heck out of this restaurant, hands down!

The restaurant was very full on a Wednesday late morning so I'd think that weekends must be a ... bear! We weren't greeted right away as the servers were busy at the tables but the wait was very short. The food came quickly and the portions were too big for us to finish and I had ordered off of the "smaller portion" section of the menu. We liked the gravy on the biscuits and gravy a lot. Nice and peppery. It's not a special occasion, come here for your wedding anniversary unless you happen to love diners. In which case, it'd be perfect. The prices were good too and the coffee was kept pretty full. I think it only got down to half once.

Are you hungry? This place has a TON of great choices and serves breakfast all day. There is free coffee served outside if you have to wait. We have had the eggs, pancakes, French toast, sandwiches and salads-always great food and service with a smile. Sometimes there is a bear character around to entertain the kids! Great bread pudding, too.

I went to the Black Bear Diner in Madras and enjoyed my meal enough to try our local Black Bear Diner. The portions were still very generous, the food tasty and the pricing reasonable. I had the 7-grain pancakes (very yummy) and my husband had a burger. He felt they put too many grilled onions on it but enjoyed it nonetheless. We would return again.

Certainly not gourmet... the usual selection of pancakes and egg dishes but the portions are big and they are consistently good. Clean and fair priced. Our elderly neighbor woman thinks the Black Bear is her favorite place for a night out. Great place for a family get together. Affordable and no one leaves hungry. Menu has plenty of selection to find something all throughout the day.
