“Great on-the-beach get away”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 29, 2012

For the price, you'd be hard pressed to beat this clean, well-kept lodge. The room I had had a well-equipped kitchenette and fireplace and deck overlooking the beach. A short walk through the sand and you're on a beach where, if not for the homes nearby, you'd swear was your own. I came on vacation, badly needing some down time to relax, and I found it here. Could it possibly be improved? Of course, but then you're not paying $350 or more a night. Perfect for the price, and highly (in my book) recommended.

The view from this place is amazing. The short walk to the beach is easy and enjoyable. The beach in Bandon is so clean and free of people, compared to Lincoln City. Gorgeous! The hotel itself is older and could use a facelift in its rooms. The kitchen was fully stocked with supplies, which was great, but the bathroom was little more than a closet and was disappointing. We stayed in a room that had two bedrooms upstairs, which made for a very roomy night. However, these stairs are not suitable for small children (we have four) or for the elderly. Overall, clean and comfortable with an amazing view.

Hello, I'm so glad you were able to enjoy our beautiful beach! Our property was built in 1936! We have many visitors who come and request the original Family Cottages. On your next visit give us a call and we can help you select a different style of room. We appreciate your feedback and are always looking at ways to improve our guests' experience!

We spent 2 nights here. The place was clean and great views of the ocean. Its older, but well kept, just not what we prefer on vacation. The stairs going to the bedroom are very steep, not for older people. The kitchen was newer and had the basics we needed. The wood deck needs a little TLC, but fine to sit on and enjoy the view. Nice to have a private cottage. Pretty good trail to get to the ocean. The ladies at the front desk were very nice and helpful.

Love this place. Hotel rooms are little cottages with direct views of the ocean. Down the stairs and go for a long walk along the beach or just enjoy the view. All the rooms are either in little A-frame cottages or by the main office. Management are great too! If you want serenity, this is the place to be.

If you are looking for a hotel that is just a short distance from the ocean, this is it. Cute facility with A-frame rooms. We stayed upstairs in Room 19. Excellent view of the ocean from the deck. Nice fireplace. Would definitely stay here again. There is a nice restaurant right across the street.

We loved our stay at Wendermere! The room was wonderful with the kitchenette and nice bathroom. The slider going out to the grass then to the walkway down to the beach was perfect for our 10 year old German Shepard. He had a wonderful time and we did too Even though it was a dog friendly room, it was extremely clean and comfortable. The room has all the comforts of home and I had room to roll out my yoga mat and stretch. It had a beautiful fireplace and a really nice tv. The king size bed was very comfortable and the pillow were firm but not too firm. Sleeping with the slider open all night was amazing to hear the ocean waves crashing and hear the seaguls in the morning! We are going again in October. We stayed the middle of July and it was warn enough one day to lay out on the beach almost all day!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Bandon beaches are some of the most beautiful beaches in southern Oregon. If you are looking for a good restaraunt...Lord Bennet's is excellent...it is north of Wendermere overlooking the ocean. Edgewater near the downtown was really great as well. Both restaraunts have awsome food! Seafood...steak...salads.

All Windermere's rooms have breathtaking ocean views; easy access to the gorgeous beach! - Its price is comparable to local bargain hotel's rates. Its staff is extremely friendly and helpful!

The famous, enchanting Bandon beach is practically right under your room window - Less than 5min walk away! The charming Bandon Old Town is also only 2mi away via a scenic route, where you will find the gorgeous marina, boardwalks, covered pavilion, and numerous sculptured redwood benches, and, of course, several popular restaurants and bars... on the pier overlooking the gorgeous bay!

LONG VERSION:
- My wife and I truly enjoyed our 2 nights stay here during the July 4th holidays for $130 per night, when most other "economy chain" hotels in the area were charging just as much for an average room!

- By the way, our room is not just a room, but actually a comfortable, CLEAN, "EFFICIENCY APARTMENT" with a million dollar ocean view! Although  the room is old and its bathroom small, they are well equipped and kept super clean! The room comes with a queen size bed, sofa, and kitchenette with a dinning table, fridge, microwave, stove, coffee maker. Its large windows offers the breathtaking view of the beach, and lets in the soothing sound of the ocean. It has FREE WiFi, but no phone in rooms.

During our 2day stay at Windermere, my wife and I had lots fun, such as:

(1) We enjoyed watching the spectacular July 4th Firework display over the bay water, from the beautiful marina pier in Bandon Old town.
- Hmm, if you like great seafood over a drink, do give Tony's Crab Shack on the pier a try. It's a no-frill fast food eatery, that offers only great seafood. We did and really loved the crab cakes and steamed clams over beer and wine.

(2) We took a 3 mile leisure stroll along the beautiful beach, which is less than 5min walk away from our room. This miles-long beach has many intriguing, spectacular, huge rock formations (boulders) near the shore line, as well as on the beach!  The magical charm of the beach, with waves after wave splashing against those boulders....is beyond my ability to describe - it can only be personally experienced!

- YES, it's true that Windermere is rather old and rustic; no phone in room and no restaurant or cafe in the premise, BUT its charm, and especially the beauty of its surroundings will make you feel like being in a tranquil, intimate resort. The managing (man and wife) and house keeping staff are all extremely friendly and helpful, making us feel welcome. By the way, when we found out that the coating of the toilet seat was chipped and started peeling, we told the manager about it, who then asked her husband to install a brand new one immediately.WOW! The view, beach, kitchenette, and services make Wndermere worthy of my 5 star rating, despite its short comings.

Room Tip: For a large family, choose the ones with multiple rooms, fireplace and kitchen, for $190 at peak sea...
