“The Gentleman's Golf Get-a-Way”

"Bandon Dunes" is the way golf should be. Take all the courses in Scotland, put them in a shaker, and pour out 4 and a half courses and that's Bandon Dunes. The first one We played was called "The Preserve" 13 very difficult par 3's that require a goat for your caddie. Then three are four more to concur if you can walk very well. You have "Bandon Dunes", "Pacific Dunes", "Old MacDonald". The fairways are cut to approx 1/4 ", leaving no definition oif the green once you arrive on the gree. There is no "First Cut". These courses are dewsigned for walkers only, no cart paths, and the only way one can use a cart is to have a "Handicap Plaquard" and pre arrange to have a caddie drive your cart.
The many properties at Bandon Dunes are all rustic and beautiful. Great dining experiences, great breakfast Buffet. Very nice Spa facilities.
The only females that were on the property were employees. Women are allowed but there were none there during my five day visit.

Room Tip: The room that we had was overlooking the 18th green at the "Bandon Dunes" course, nice out...

My husband and I stayed at Bandon Dunes for one night so that he could play a few rounds. The property is beautiful, but secluded. If you are not there to play golf, be warned that there are not a lot of other options to pass the time. We had booked a standard room, but were upgraded to a larger room at no charge. The cabin was beautiful, with enormous windows and plenty of space. My husband played Pacific Dunes and Bandon Dunes and raved about both courses. I spent the day taking a hike to the ocean, which I would recommend to any non-golfers. The beach was empty and beautiful. It was also very windy, so be prepared. We ate dinner in the main clubhouse and it was very good. The next day, we met for lunch at the Pacific Dunes clubhouse, which was standard bar food. If you love to golf, Bandon Dunes is an excellent destination and a high quality resort. Every amenity is designed to improve your golfing experience and it makes for a wonderful visit.

I had a great time during my recent trip. If I lived on the west coast I would visit more often. I will return again someday. The golf was great the weather was so so but that comes with the season. Everyone from the front desk to the starter to the people operating the shuttles were great. I can not wait until I can return to Bandon.

Just returned from 4 days at Bandon, trying now to adjust to normal life again. We played all the courses, two of them twice. The golf is amazing, and the courses are actually pretty varied. All on tighter lies than you might be used to, which takes a little adjusting (you actually have to hit your irons properly). The 7 in our group all had different favorites among the courses, mine being Pacific Dunes. When we got back to Dallas, we met Tom Lehman who was also waiting for his clubs at the oversized baggage area and he was very curious about the golf at Bandon. I'm pretty sure we helped convince him to do what he already felt like he needed to do--get out there and experience the unique golf experience.

We stayed in a cottage, which was well-designed for a group of golfers. Has everything you need/want. The restaurants were all great, plenty of variety between the various ones. The spa is also a nice touch. After a few days of walking 36 holes, was nice to get a massage to be able to go conquer the last day.

We also saved the Preserve until the last day, which was a really fun way to cap off the trip. All of us were able to play together, and the course is a lot of fun. Very nicely conditioned, along with a drink lady who kept us well-provisioned. We were deciding between doing this or another 18 after the last morning round, and it was a great choice. The setting is beautiful and the course is in great shape.

I can't imagine a better place for a pure golf experience. Outstanding.

We only had a night to spend here and didn't golf, but we wanted to see Bandon Dunes. The room in the Inn, which we were upgraded to, was outstanding! Very large and well-appointed. We ate in McKee's Pub and had a very good meal. The setting is stunning and the view from our room was outstanding. We would definitely stay here again. We felt the price of the room and the food and drinks were very good for such a lovely place. The service everywhere was excellent.

Room Tip: We had 107 which we loved but if it were summer, the room patio is next to the lounge patio in the i...

We played Pacific Dunes, outstanding.
We were one of the very few groups who did not take a caddie. Also husband and wife we were left as a twosome. Not staying on the property we did not know the driving range was not at the course had to get back in our car to drive to it.
Couldn't find my tee box on the second hole, I was not playing the ver forward tees, which by the way looked like an after thought just stuck on the fairway. Finally hit from the gold.
Only found two water fountains, no ball washers.
yes very male oriented club, very few women golfing.
No one there to clean our clubs after.
I guess we expected better for the price. Just let people know about the driving range, No ball washers, bring water.
Sure takes a lot of people out of playing here that can't walk. Too bad the scenery is outstanding.

Bandon Dunes Golf Resort is a purpose built buddy trip destination. It provides a decidedly masculine, entirely golf oriented experience like a Ferrari provides a thrilling ride to a skilled driver. However, like any purpose built machine, there are sacrifices to be made.

The Oregon coast is remote and besides the golf, there isn't much to do. There is no spa, no pool and no shopping to speak of. The scenery is beautiful and rugged but the weather is even rougher with wind, rain and even hail common much of the year. And this is exactly the point. Bandon Dunes is about some of the greatest links golf in the world with nothing else to distract you.

For those unfamiliar with links, it refers to the area between the sea and the land where sand dunes, beach grass and nasty kind of scrub called gorse dominate the landscape. This is where golf was born yet has only a passing resemblence to its parkland cousin, both in the way it looks and the way it is played. Soft, lush treelined fairways and water hazards are replaced with firm, tightly mown fairways that blend into massive greens that pitch and roll like a troubled sea. Deep bunkers, seemingly ripped out of the dunes are the primary hazard and the wind. The wind defines links golf as much as the landscape. It forces you to keep the ball low, be creative and roll it along the contours of the land.

Here are some tips to enjoy your visit more:

1) Leave non-golfers at home, they won't get it.
2) Be prepared for bad weather. Bring a high quality rain suit and dress in layers.
3) Get a caddie. You will be lost without one.
4) Play all the courses. They are all different and all good.
4) Enjoy the walk, it goes by very quickly
