Stayed here on a family trip between Seattle & Salt Lake. I think we paid $75 for a 2 Queen room and $85 for a 2 room suite on the return trip. The 3 bed suite is definitely worth the price if you have kids - you get a small separate room with a door and a separate tv. They had recently re-painted/tiled the bathrooms, but the rooms are still pretty average. You get the same # of breakfast tickets as beds in your room for the attached diner. The diner is definitely worth a visit - it has local flavor in spades, the food is really good and the prices are reasonable. Overall, the staff is friendly and the place is a pretty good value.

My 84 year old diabetic mother recovering from her right hip replacement made reservations 4 months ago for her final vacation before going to live in a senior living facility. She reserved a room for her 3 sons and her self with at least 3 beds to avoid any embarrasing moments (for $71 ... it was her last vacation after all). Upon arrival we found out that her room had been rented out to the local fire department and the family would have to make due with only 2 beds ... (Who was going to sleep with MOM!?). Well the motel staff was incredible (I mean there was an iguana in the office) and very accommodating so luckily no one would have to sleep with Mom. We were offered to a very comfortable air mattress (at no extra cost!). Of course all of us argued over dinner who would be the lucky one to sleep in the assuredly comfortable vinyl puffy mattress that would soon be waiting for us. Well Mom was the winner. Or was she?

Back from dinner we open the door ... what was that noise? The staff had said nothing about the room being armed with an alarm system. Oh, not to worry, the ear splitting decibels were merely being emitted from the room alarm clock that had gone off in our absence. Well we fumbled with the alarm and finally managed to shut it off so as to avoid the firemen from downstairs breaking down our door and instinctively responding to the shrill siren. Immediately we went downstairs to the office to check in on our missing air mattress. Of course our neighbors were there before us, asking the staff to take pity upon them and shut off the incessant screeching being emitted from our room. Luckily we had already taken care of the pesky alarm as it was questionable as to whether the staff was capable of solving the problem. The iguana and the ferrets in the office seemed disinterested. But our lucky day! the staff did say they would be right up with the missing matress.

The matress finally arrived as slick and inviting as expected. Luckily Mom was still up so that she could help the hotel staff muscle on the sheets (since they didn't quite fit). It also helped to wear Mom out a bit to get her ready for bed. Well let me just say that it turned out that matress was not exactly kind to Mom. It WAS made out of very slick vinal. Thank goodness the firemen that had gotten Mom's room in the first place were still sleeping downstairs when the accident happened. Well the other good thing was that it turned out okay that the included breakfast was cancelled. I mean who could eat after that? And Mom's an old pro with the insulin needle. And can you believe it? That incredible staff gave us a $20 dollar discount! Wow! I wonder how many flies the iguana had to give up for that?

Stayed here enroute to Portland and the coast. Was driving from Salt Lake City, and didn't really have a planned overnight stay location, wanted to see how far along the route we could get. Decided to try and make it as far as Baker City, looked up the hotel and booked as we left Boise. Was pleasantly surprised. It was clean, spacious and best of all affordable. The kids liked the iguana and other creatures in the lobby, even took a dip in the pool. I would stay here again if passing through.

We pass through Baker City at least once a year and we always stay at the Oregon Trail Motel. We've been doing this for 15 years. Wonderful value for the money. Beds are comfortable, rooms are clean & the staff is friendly. The food at the attached diner is unmatched for taste and quality. We always plan our trips with the intention of staying here!

My boyfriend and I spent one night here on our way to Portland, OR. My cousin reccomended Baker City as a nice place to stay if we got sleepy along the way and we ended up pulling off the freeway there to find a hotel. The exit is a little strange as it does not lead directly into town and we found ourselves driving past a few motels with "open" signs turned off for the night. As soon as we got to the edge of the historic downtown district (which is worth a look if you're there for more than just the evening), though, we saw the bright lights and welcoming office of the Oregon Trail. Admittedly, the hotel looks a little sketchy from the outside, but not only was there a hostess at the desk, but she was more than willing to give us an incredibly reasonably priced room for the night (about $40.00). Also, If you like animals and coffee (like me) there are both in abundance in the office area (two lizards, ferrets, fish, a dog to name a few) -- I can see kids loving the animals and the friendly atmosphere in there. Also, I believe the hotel is dog friendly for travelers with pets. Our room was nothing fancy, but had a microwave and fridge (which I always like) and a temperpedic (?) -type foam mattress. The bathroom needed remodeling (for looks only), but the shower had great water pressure and was perfect after a long day of driving. We slept great and then enjoyed a very low priced breakfast at the diner next door. There were some free menu items that came with the hotel stay, but we opted for other fare. I had one of the best bran muffins (random, I know) that I've ever tried there and the pies looked amazing. It was super friendly, super affordable, and a great experience overall. I will stay here again on my way to Portland or Seattle.

We just spent 3 nights in Eastern Oregon and this place was the best value. Although nothing very special, we found the rooms to be very clean and more than adequate for our modest needs. A Generous breakfast at their very cool restaurant was included.
