A Beaten Path Bed and Breakfast
Ranked #1 of 4 Baker City B&B and Inns
Reviewed January 25, 2014

We stopped over in Baker City after a 50k trail race in Idaho, and the breakfasts served by Ivy and Ernie were the perfect recovery meals... baked goods fresh from the oven, decadent breakfast sandwiches, and homemade granola with yogurt and fresh fruit. Ivy asked ahead of time if we had any dietary restrictions, which was very thoughtful.

The B&B is cozy and comfortable with nice historic touches, and the hosts are very welcoming. It is a short walk from Downtown Baker City and the Barley Brown brewery (which we also recommend!). The Anthony Lake ski area is a short, scenic drive away along with some other fun historic sites.

All in all, a wonderful and relaxing weekend with wonderful hosts and we are already thinking of excuses to return....

We stayed here earlier this month when in Baker for a funeral. The B&B is located just about 1/2 mile from Main Street and several good restaurants/wine bars. The hosts are friendly, knowledgeable and fantastic cooks. We had the best breakfasts of our lives--not only the variety of foods but the quality and cooking was superb. The B&B is housed in a 1890's home that has been lovingly restored by Ivy and Ernie (owners). We had the living room to ourselves and since my husband had to work via his computer on Friday morning, I spent the time curled up by the fire with a book. The grounds were covered in snow, the sun was shining and the fire was great. We walked into town for the afternoon's browsing experience, stopping at Earth & Vine wine bar for lunch. We ended up back at the wine bar late that night for live music and a chocolate fondue to go with our port. Great weekend, even though it was for a sad event--funeral of a friend.

Baker City was our halfway stop for a two-day drive from Salt Lake City to the Oregon Coast. Looking up places for a family of 6 to stay, I came across this Bed and Breakfast. The reviews were good, so I thought, let's try it (our kids have never had a B&B experience).
It was the best reservation I could have made. After a 7-hour drive, we arrived late in the evening. The kids were tired from the ride, but a little weirded out by our explanation that we'd be sleeping at someone's house for the night. You should have seen their faces when we stepped inside, and Ivy began showing us around. Wow. They (and we) were loving this place! It is an 1880's home, and decorated in the old style, done so well. Homey, comfortable, and beautiful at the same time. Ivy and Ernie are a wonderful couple, with a talent for hospitality.
There are 3 bedrooms, but they only book one family at a time. Our family used 2 rooms, we were very comfortable and slept very well. The living room area is also "yours", as Ivy says, while you are there.
As if all that were not great enough already, the breakfast prepared for us in the morning absolutely knocked our socks off--it was a meal fit for a king, really, served beautifully in the dining room.
The old saying goes, "getting there is half the fun". This is definitely the case here. It was halfway to our destination, but it was a highlight of our trip, both going and coming back. A memorable experience, if we ever pass that way again I will not hesitate to book our stay with A Beaten Path.

A perfect stop between Salt lake City and Seattle or Portland/Oregon shore. The owners are very friendly and have a a very cool 1890's house to share with you. It's really like being at home, guests have sole use of a good size living room and 1/2 of the house upstairs (or so it seems). Highly recommended! If you're a light sleeper, be aware that trains run through Baker City through the night and you'll hear them wherever you are.
