“Magnificent Hotel”
Reviewed November 6, 2013

Such a magnificent historic hotel that has been renovated beautifully! The front desk staff was very helpful and courteous. When my husband and I walked into our room (the 2nd floor Cupola Suite) we were thrilled to see an excellent room! Everything was beautiful and perfectly clean! We had Happy Hour appetizers and beer in the café before dining in the big room. The appetizers weren't fantastic, but dinner was delicious. The whiskey bread pudding was the crowning jewel! We weren't able to take the guided tour of the hotel, but hopefully next time. The bed was amazingly comfortable! The only drawback to getting good sleep is hearing the train whistles throughout the night. The hotel has a movie library, which has many videos to choose from, but we didn't find much we wanted to watch for romantic-comedies. Overall our experience was over-the-top and perfect for a night get-a-way. We will be back!

My spouse and I, with our two dogs, traveled through Baker City on our way to Seattle last March and discovered the Geiser Grand as we were driving around town enjoying the lovely old buildings. We stepped into history when we crossed the threshold. We loved the architecture, the memorabilia, the old-ghosts feel of the place. Had a beautiful meal, good food, genteel service, live music. We decided we'd have to stay there next time we were in town. Our chance came up last week, October 25. The room was gorgeous. The stairway, the library, the skylight, the dinner (excellent again, as before), and the service were all very nice. A bell hop helped us with our luggage. Our dogs were treated well. Only one concern: Someone had obviously left their pet in the room alone and it had scratched the back of the door. We never leave our dogs alone in a room and our dogs are extremely well-behaved, and although we requested a room-check to be certain they wouldn't charge our card with damage, the front desk said it wasn't necessary. But then they called us later in the day and told us they had found damage to the door and would charge our card. We got it straightened out in the end, and were offered an upgrade next time we came through town, but it rather spoiled our trip for the duration. We are a forgiving pair, and the good outweighs the bad, certainly, so we hope to afford another stay. The price is rather high for us even with the least expensive room, but we know how much it takes to keep a place like this running well, so we understand why they must charge a high rate. We paid $109.00 plus a pet fee, which we were not told about on the phone when we reserved the room. The front desk was accommodating about this glitch as well, though they said they still had to charge for one dog. We will have to save-up to stay again, but we'll certainly try! It's a magnificent old place and we like the people.

We fell in Love with the Geiser Grand Hotel several years ago. We were on our way home to Washington from Arizona when we decided to stop in Baker City Oregon. Driving through town we found the Geiser Grand Hotel and decided to stay. What a treat !
When we planned our trip this fall we had to include the Geiser Grand. We made our reservations in advance and were not disappointed. They contacted us before we left to see if we wanted to make reservations for the Pasta Buffet the night we would be there. We had a lovely room on the third floor with a canopy bed. It was clean and comfy and the Pasta buffet was delicious.
With two great experiences at this lovely old hotel we couldn't pass it by on our way home in October. We did not have reservations but stopped on our way through. We were welcomed as old friends and given an upgrade to a suite when we checked in.
The next time we go we are going to stay for a couple of days so we can explore and enjoy our stay.
Thanks Geiser Grand, we will be back.

My wife and I stayed there for 2 days in July. Having our credit card charged immediately seemed a little odd considering that the reservation was made almost 3 months in advance but I could live with that. Can't say anything about the food, didn't eat there at all. The staff seemed nice enough except for front desk "manager" Johnathan (a little snooty). The big surprise was when we got home and found almost $100 on my credit card (room was already paid for). Apparently tax does not get charged if paid for over the net (okay whatecer), but we were charged for a 3rd person (didn't happen), and 2 breakfasts (didn't happen). When I called about it the answer was 'I'll look into it". I had to call back twice after not hearing from them for two or three days. They finally responded (and a check eventually sent to us) after I threatened to dispute all charges on the card. I don't know if they are unorganized or stupid enough to think that people don't check credit card charges. We'll be back to Baker BUT NOT THAT HOTEL.

While touring Oregon in June 2013 we had the pleasure of spending the night at the Geiser Grand Hotel in Baker City, Oregon. What a treat! The hotel staff could not have been more accommodating and helpful. The room was very spacious and comfortable. This experience will be a pleasant memory for years to come.

My husband and I took our 2 St Bernards with us to the Geiser Grand to celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary. It was the 1st time we had taken the dogs to a hotel and were not sure how it would work. The hotel had a nice big room reserved for us, with a mat and 2 dog bowls already set up in the bathroom. They greeted us royally when we arrived and asked that we let them know if there was anything else we would need once we got to the room. The dogs were great and there is a park and a river walk right behind the hotel so taking the dogs out for their business and a walk was so easy. The room, was very nice and had a sitting area and the sleeping area. The bed was comfortable and everything in the room was clean and nice. It was a great night and we will do it again.

Room Tip: We were on the 3rd floor and found it extremely quiet and nice.

Thanks to All, at Geiser Grand, in Baker City, Oregon for making our anniversary soooo special.
From the moment I called to make reservations to our checkout, all was fantastic! Don't miss their friendly, helpful staff, the guided tour/carriage ride through town, tour of an amazing Historical treasure in the Northwest, to a delicious evening meal in stately dining room under the one of a kind stain glass ceiling. A MUST Stay traveling on I84. Beautiful rooms, and beautiful people
