Yes, the location might seem a bit iffy, although with some of the old buildings just to the north and east of the restaurant being gone, that hard industrial edge is softened.
I love El Rio Verde. Period. I've written, and spoken, before about food experiences being life changing. My first time here, over eleven years ago, was definitely that. In just one visit, my expectations for Mexican food in Tulsa were elevated. No longer would fast food Taco Quicko-style offerings satisfy me.
Take your pick off of their menu. You like enchiladas? They make great enchiladas. You like tortas? Oh buddy, their tortas are good. Are you brave? Order your torta drowned - smothered in hot sauce, and eaten with a fork. You like tacos? You'll LOVE their tacos. And, sure, you can order carne asada or chicken tacos and be satisfied, but if you want to go out on a limb and blow the taste meter out of the water, order their chorizo tacos. Or their lengua tacos. Or....my mouth is drooling at this thought....cabeza tacos.
On weekends, stop by and get some menudo, or pozole. Oustanding examples of each.
They have fish tacos, too. While not my favorite, they are still very good. I'd definitely not turn one down!
