It is a statue that has been a landmark in Tulsa for 50 years. It is erected when Tulsa was the Oil Capitol of the World - before Houston took the title in a fair fight. It is worth a drive and picture as you will not see anything like this anywhere else.

You must see it for yourself! This is iconic Tulsa - and represents the time when Tulsa was the oil capital of the world.

This statue is big. We always see him during the Tulsa Sate Fair. Something interesting to see. During the fair he wears a t-shirt.

For out-of-towners and Tulsans alike, seeing the great driller out on the front lawn is worth the trip. It should almost be a trek which every Oklahoman should make. This 76-foot-tall monument is sort of a standing tribute (pun intended) to Tulsa's former title of "Oil Capital of the World".

There is more though: The Golden Driller is the largest free-standing statue in the world, and the third tallest statue in the United States. In 1979, the Golden Driller was adopted by the Oklahoma Legislature as the state monument.

So not only is it historically significant with an interesting background, but its also an impressive feat of a statue.

The Golden Driller stands in front of the Fair grounds building in Tulsa. He's been there as long as I can remember. He's a tough looking guy, but is somehow very reassuring as a reference point if you get lost!
