“Juniper was good, but not great”
Reviewed June 26, 2012

Four of us (two couples) ate at Juniper prior to seeing a show at the Tulsa PAC. Overall impression was good, but not sure we would go back.
To begin with, the service was excellent. Attentive waitress, but not intrusive. And we never felt the least bit rushed. Overall a very good experience from that angle.
Now the food.
We started with a signature drink for each of us. They were all pretty tasty, but $10 worth? Not sure about that. There was a bacon old fashioned (yes - bacon.) A little odd tasting, but in a good way. However they need to use a better quality bourbon to make it very good. My wife had a watermelon Mojito, which she like a lot. Sad to say, I can't remember what the others had but they both enjoyed them quite a bit.
For appetizers there were crab cakes. the consensus was there was way too much mayo and filler and not enough crab - which seemed to be ground crab, not jumbo lump crab like one would expect. wew also shared an order of fried mushrooms - a fairly large portion and tasty.
This was followed by salads. Two diners had a green bean and asparagus salad that was good, but the asparagus was julienned - well, more like cut with a veggie peeler. the other salad was a beet salad that the diner decided she would have preferred to have in a much larger portion rather than the steak (more on that next). I did not eat a salad.
For dinner there was trout - good, but a little lacking in flavor. Lamb chops - sorry, but while they were very good, I have never been served only two small chops when ordering lamb. I felt this one was a little overpriced and could have used a third chop. The ladies both had a filet and while they liked the meat, they thought the ragout of tomatoes and okra was a bit overwhelming - the steaks were pretty much swimming in it and, according to them, it wasn't that good.
Overall, the meal was good, but there were several important misses in the preparation that kept it from being great. Maybe we just aren't good foodies?

“Excellent Excellent Excellent!”
Reviewed June 4, 2012

We visited Juniper based on the good reviews here, and we were not disappointed. It was a Friday night, and we didn't have a reservation, but they went out of their way to get us seated as quickly as possible. We chatted a bit with Justin - who is the executive chef/owner - and who was manning the hostess stand when they got busy. I mentioned he probably had more "important" things to do, but he shrugged it off by saying he had just plated a bunch of food so was glad to be able to help out. The bar area was lively, albeit small, but the people there seemed to be enjoying themselves. We were from out of town, but this seemed to be a favorite of locals. My husband remarked that the rib-eye was "the best steak I've ever had", which is saying a lot (us being from Kansas City!). The berry cobbler was sublime...highly recommend!!

“Nice, quaint restaurant with a fresh approach.”
Reviewed April 6, 2012

Our server was very nice, the food was tasty, but it was freezing cold inside (which made you want to eat fast and get out!) and the portions are on the smaller side. On a side note, it's across the street from an "adult store" so it was a little uncomfortable standing on the corner waiting for a taxi back to the hotel.

“Great Bar and Menu”
Reviewed March 29, 2012

We ate at Juniper for my Birthday in March. We arrived about an hour before or reservations and sat at the bar. Very cool place with interesting drink selections. The bar makes bacon infused borbon and several flavored vodkas. These are all displayed in old containers at the bar. The staff was excellent and very helpful with the cocktail selections. Beer options are also very unique and worth a look. We were seated and treated well by our server. The menu appears to change regularly and features locally grown products and will likely expand once the Farmer's Market opens in April. The bacon appitizer was great and the steak was cooked perfectly. Others at the table had pasta and the fish of the day which. All of the food was well received and very good. This is a great place for a first date, special celebration or dinner with friends. Proabably not the best place for small children as the menu is limited for those tastes. I would highly recommend hanging at the bar and trying the special house drinks!
