The Ouachita National Forest and the roads that run through it make it a popular destination when traveling through Southeastern Oklahoma, as does Oklahoma's Scenic Hwy 1 that runs from Talihina, Oklahoma to Mena, Arkansas. One block for the beginning of Hwy 1 in Talihina is an amazing little restaurant by the name of "Pam's Hateful Hussy Diner" that specializes in home cooking and good old American comfort food at very reasonable prices.
I've been regularly stopping in to Pam's for over 10 years and each time I find something on her walls that I've not seen before. They are covered in placques with sayings on them as well as indian and western art and artifacts which all make for a truly unique experience every time.
The food is always fresh, hot and tasty, the wait staff is always friendly and helpful, and Pam is always with customers or in the kitchen to make sure everything is just right.
It's popular among Boy Scouts, motorcycle riders and visitors of every kind, and with autumn, cool weather, and the leaves changing color on the mountain its a perfect place to visit the next time you're in this beautiful area that is also home to the Choctaw Indian Nation.
