“Visited again and really disappointed”
Reviewed July 17, 2014

I first came to Howard Johnson in OKC about 4 months ago and recently stopped by again on another cross-country move, this time with the wife and dogs. Originally they gave us the top floor which did not work because my dogs apparently don't like stairs. Fine, they moved us to a downstairs unit for an extra $10 a night. I was grateful they could move us at all so that was fine. We got to our room and I don't know if this particular room was bad or if I had clouded judgment the first time around but it was not ideal. Tons of cracks in the wall, really antiquated appliances and TVs, and squeaky beds. Also, the sliding door to the pool area could not close all the way. There was maybe a half inch gap between the glass and the wall which isn't that big of a deal in theory as there were lots of bars to ensure you couldn't open it but it became a problem when there people in the pool.

Even though the hours were until 10, people were in the pool well into midnight and because our door didn't shut all the way, we heard everything. It was terrible. Definitely not a great night sleep.

Very disappointed in this hotel. I had specifically requested this hotel when we did our drive as i thought it was nice but it is now apparent that I was looking back in rose tinted glasses.

Room Tip: Be wary of being by the pool as it is quite loud

My only complaints would be the door lock, which took numerous tries to work, and the pillows. There were lots of pillows on each bed, but I couldn't find one that wasn't overstuffed in my opinion. I'd like to see more variety in the types of pillows--it makes a big difference in the quality of one's sleep. The pool is clean and pleasant. The desk staff were very helpful and considerate. The breakfast is fine--nothing to shout about but well stocked with a good variety for all kinds of tastes and diets. There are no elevators, so be prepared to carry your luggage up a flight if you stay on the second floor. We stayed here two nights, both going to and coming from our destination in New Mexico. The fact that we booked a night for our return trip should be proof that we thought this was a good place to stay.

Room Tip: We asked for a room away from doors and the ice machine. Our room was very quiet. The second-floor r...

First night was a Friday night, so the people above us were being loud at 4 a.m. but other than that the hotel was clean, nice and the front desk employees were great. The beds were comfortable, the AC was great and worked too good. Breakfast was good enough to get going in the morning. Overall great experience, would recommend!

We will never stay at this hotel again. The best part of the hotel was the pool. The hotel was clean. But, the rooms were horrible. They had paint peeling, TV didn't work and the bathroom door didn't even latch. The bed was like laying on a floor with springs poking through. We had to have a first floor room Bc there is no elevator and my husband is a disabled veteran who can barely walk. They charged us an extra $15 plus taxes for a first floor room.

My plan was to get a double room - but it was booked up when I got there. I'm not sure I believe that based on the parking lot, but ok. I got a 'suite' with a very comfortable king bed. Room was clean (no bugs!) with basic amenities.

Back slider to the pool was beyond operable, but other than that everything was good. Friendly staff, nice pool. Lots of food within walking.
Also, the hot breakfast was a plus, as it took away an extra expense.

We stayed one night here. The room is very dated even though it looks like they just renovated. The AC did not work properly, the TV is the old style CRT. The included breakfast was decent. It was OK for one night but I wouldn't want to spend more than that here.

Check in was quick and friendly. They do not have an elevator if you have trouble with stairs. The room was a business office style room with plenty of electrical outlets to recharge your toys and computers. The room was spacious and clean. The water pressure and temperature were good. However, the bath towels were not only thin but reminded me of steel wool which would be great if you want to exfoliate your entire body. Maybe a little fabric softener could be added?
Breakfast was very good. Low carb dieters will be happy. Scrambled eggs, seasoned potatoes,
cereals, make your own waffles, juices, coffee, and limited bread products.
Check out was quick but the clerk did not seem interested in knowing if our stay was satisfactory.
The price of the room was only $45 tax included which is hard to beat given the hot breakfast we had. Booked really early.
