“One of the better capital buildings”
Review of State Capitol

Having been to several of the capital buildings, this one falls amidst the better ones. The building itself is one of the larger capitals in the area. Filled with Indian artwork, it also does a great job reflecting its state's heritage. Probably the best thing about visiting this capital is that they have pamphlets for a self guided tour at the door. Even in Sunday's when the visitor center isn't open, these pamphlets are available.

and I loved it!! The artwork that is featured is amazing. The outside of the building is gorgeous and so is the inside! I really enjoyed our visit and it was free!! We went on Sunday morning and almost had the entire building to ourselves. It was great to just walk around and take in the atmosphere.

The artwork alone is reason enough to bring your out-of-state or foreign visitors here. If you are an Oklahoman and haven't visited our State Capitol - shame on you - you really should visit.

Set up a field trip for your class. They do have guided tours for groups. Also there are some training aids (question forms) which can be carried by the students, (sort of like a treasure hunt) ... The group I work with are special needs, high school students, (so its not so much of how much you saw, but you trying to find the material, and take a few motes for discussion when we get back to the class room.) and having fun!

We weren't welcomed by the first security guard we encountered. He was VERY rude to us when we entered the wrong door. Thankfully, once inside the staff was very helpful. We were told if a door was open, to go in-even behind the senate & house areas to view the artwork. The booklet we were given for the self-guided tour was very helpful. Guided tours are also given.
