We spent the afternoon wandering around this museum. Each time you turn a corner you would find beautiful works of art and/or a wonderful collection of displayed artifacts. We enjoyed seeing all the exhibits. Some of the things we enjoyed seeing were the history, western town, movie stars, and paintings to name a few. The staff are very friendly and helpful. I highly recommend visiting this museum. Be prepared to spend two to three hours touring the museum. It will not disappoint.

The Oklahoma Tourist Welcome center suggested that we visit this museum. However, not being big into cowboy and western culture I had my doubts, but my husband likes old guns so I relented. Arriving at the museum, we were impressed with the beautiful building and its surrounding gardens. At the ticket booth we were informed that the gun exhibit and quite a few of the other exhibits of art were closed for renovation. We were taken aback because we feel that a museum should always have MOST of its displays available, even if they have to be edited and placed in interim spaces. So that was a disappointment and therefore the 4 stars instead of 5. The most gorgeous, and enormously impressive white plaster sculpture of an Indian rider on a horse is the first thing that greets the visitor upon entering. The hallways are wide, bright and very tall. The walls are line with photographs which naturally channel you towards the other exhibits. At the end of the right hallway, there is a very, very large white marble sculpture of a Cougar running down a mountainside. The are are enough exhibits open to keep one busy for a couple of hours. There is a gallery full of very lovely paintings done by local artists which were of spectacular talent and beauty. The Museum also has a delightful restaurant with glass over black and white gingham tablecloths topping round tables, flowers, a surprisingly good and inexpensive buffet and also offering sandwiches and light menu items a la carte. I have to say that I'm really glad we went.

Very authentic museum with so much to see. The art is incredible, the statues inside AND out are phenomenally done and the museum pieces are very interesting. The staff is VERY friendly and helpful. We spent a couple of hours wandering around and found something interesting around every corner. While we didn't eat in the cafe, we were very surprised at how nice it was compared to cafe's in other museums. Time well spent and we'll visit again when in the area.

Even though I am not a big western aficionado this was a most impressive place! Even had a very nice lunch while there. Plan on spending 2-3 hours at the minimum!
