“Not bad, but a little over-priced”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 30, 2007

We stayed here over the summer for a couple nights. There are both good and bad about the B&B. The good is that the management is friendly, the breakfast is good, and the grounds are lovely. The bad is that for the price of the room, I felt the decor (particularly carpet) was a little dated. Everything was very clean. Our in-room fireplace was not working at the time we were there, but it was also not cold out so that may be why. Also, we were not in Norman for a football game, but just on a stop along the way, so we would have like to be closer to bars/restaurants. Overall, I wouldn't rule out staying here again, but if I did, I would probably pay more for a cottage in an effort to get something a little more special.

This is such a beautiful Inn. Not many rooms, I believe 17 all together and 2-3 cottages across the street. All have private bath., ours was the Alma Mater room which had its own private hot tub/jacuzzi outside on our own "private deck"., has like 10 ft wood walls aropund so nobody can see in, perfect for early morning or late evening with glass of wine. Ours had all "sooner" stuff, books, pennants, bedspread, magazines, year books etc......... great for a Sooner Fan. Ours had a nice king sized bed, bath with tub/shower, tv, clock radio.,free breakfast, free snacks, like apples, granola bars, bottled water.... Really homey atmosphere., owners and all are great. Not much to do except on game weekends and sundays are really "dead". No real stores, etc near the Inn, have to walk about a mile or so up Main street, Coaches is a nice restaurant bar/grill., and " The Diner" is small but great for breakfast., get there early, like by 7am., fills up quick. See a sooners game if in town if you like college football, has parties/tail gaters outside like you wouldnt believe, no alcohol in stadium and small amount of snacks. If you like beer, go early before game, plenty of places outside stadium with lots of vendors selling souveniers etc.

  • Liked — private hot tub/ jacuzzi on private deck outside
  • Disliked — all was great
  • Tips/Secrets — go on a game day or weekend when there is a game, Oklahoma Sooners,

The Montford Inn is one of the best-kept secrets in Norman Oklahoma. How nice it is to find such an oasis of comfort and class in our world of cookie-cutter hotels.

Each thematically designed room and cottage welcomes a weary traveler with quiet class and spendor. From the period antiques to the hand-stiched quilts across the bannisters, the Montford Inn is THE place to stay if you plan to visit the area.

Thanks for a wonderful visit, folks! It's nice to have a home away from home in Montford.

I just spent the weekend at the Montford Inn in Norman, Oklahoma. The Montford is a small, locally-owned inn with a main house containing 2 guest rooms, large public space and dining room; and several small cottages across the street from the main house.

It is a bed and breakfast, but the owners live off-site. Breakfast was wonderful, and if someone didn't care for the planned selection, the owner was more than happy to fix up some plain eggs with meat and fresh fruit. I thought everything was wonderful, especially the fruit smoothies.

The common areas are large, comfortable and well used by the guests. I was there for a retreat planned by a local organization. In fact, I live across town; but I had no exposure to the Montford prior to the retreat.

What struck me about the Montford was the simple, basic things that large, expensive hotels frequently don't get. Last summer I spent $250 a night to stay in a major, chain's convention hotel in Chicago. The Montford's bed was more comfortable. The bathroom towels were softer and more absorbant. Oh, and my room at the Montford, which was significantly less money, came with a gas fireplace and outside hot tub (unfortunately closed for the winter).

My wants are simple when away from home. I want a comfortable bed, a good night's sleep, drinkable water, available coffee, an Internet hot spot, and a fabulous breakfast included in the price is gravy. I am frequently surprised at the inability of large, expensive hotels to provide this.

I was pleasantly surprised with how well I slept and ate during my retreat time, and came home a little reluctantly.
