Cutting Garden Bed & Breakfast
Ranked #6 of 6 Norman B&B and Inns
Reviewed March 6, 2012

Connie made my son and I feel like we were family. The hospitality, the kindness, the welcome greeting and the food were simply outstanding. The place was clean, spacious and smoke-free. This experience accented the difference between a hotel and a Bed and Breakfast.....'want that safe home feeling???? Stay at Cutting Garden..

My wife & I have stayed at many B&B's and this one was certainly "different". The back yard "garden" was not a garden at all. It was very messy & unkept. The deck was gone. The sign for the inn in the front was missing and there was a plastic milk bottle on the front porch. ALso, the front door knob was about to fall off. We felt like we were living in someone else's house for the night. There was also a smell in the house that was not pleasant. A week prior, we spent the night in another B&B in Norman that was a select registry inn and paid $50 less and had a much better experience. The best part of Cutting Garden was the breakfast and the bed. Until Connie cleans up she needs to rename her B&B Cutting Weeds.

We loved our stay in this B&B. Walking distance to campus and close to everything else. In a residential area, but very secluded and cozy. This isn’t your typical B&B, loaded with antiques and dressed to the nines. This B&B is more like your home away from home, staying with a good friend, warm and friendly. Connie is a delightful person, very accommodating and great fun to talk with. We stayed a week and our breakfast conversations felt like catching up on things with an old friend. We had the porch room. Nice private area to sit and relax surrounded with trees. There’s also a large deck in the back, surrounded with gardens, to do the same. Breakfast was delicious, and on our last day we needed to leave early so Connie made up some muffins and fruit for us to travel with. The rooms are very spacious and the bed was very comfortable. This is so much better than the plethora of impersonal hotels in the area. Give it a try.

The queen size mattress was very comfortable. One would think that if you were paying $145 for one night in a B&B and the hostess had known you were coming for 4 days that efforts would have been made to dust the room and clean off the porch. I frequent B&B's all over the country and have NEVER stayed at one so filthy.

We stayed at the Cutting Garden over an OU football weekend and had a great time. Connie, our host, was very accomodating even though we arrived very late the first night and had to leave very early at the end of our trip.

We stayed in the first floor room which was ideal, as a former college mate and I shared the room. The first floor room has a door to the hall that leads to the room, so it feels very private. Our room had a VERY comfy queen bed, nice big windows, a large closet, ironing board, chest of drawers, tv, remote bedside tables and and a great ceiling fan. The bathroom isn't in the bedroom, but just as in a home, it's in the hall. Since that entire hallway though is closed off to the rest of the house it is your own private bath. This worked out great because we didn't wake each other when we used the bathroom. Our bathroom had a long vanity and a tub.shower combination. It is not a brand new house but it was in good shape and everything felt very homey.

The B&B is non smoking which was nice, though there is a big garden and backyard, which I assume would be available to smokers. Just outside our wing of the downstairs is the living room with a TV, dining table and fridge. Connie even told let us store our leftovers in her fridge which was great. She also made a few batches of cookies, which we devoured! Every morning we were offered great breakfasts--she'd ask us the night before for our preferences and we served great made to order breakfasts. We had everything we needed.

It was a little rainy over the weekend and our main reason for the trip was to revisit the campus, so we didn't get out to the garden, though it looked great! We did peek at the upstairs rooms before any guests checked into those rooms. There's an upstairs room that connects to the balcony and has a private hot tub, then the 2nd upstairs bedroom has a jetted tub in the bathroom (both have bathrooms in the bedrooms).

Connie was very helpful and was not intrusive at all. We really enjoyed our stay and never felt as strangers, which is so much nicer than how you feel in most hotels. I've stayed at many B&Bs and this was definitely on of my favorites! As an added bonus, it was an easy 2 or 3 block walk to campus, so we barely drove our car, unless we were going out to dinner.
