Stopped here on family day after basic. The inside seemed more geared for younger children then teens. The outside made up for it, with a wonderful informative guide at the fort. He was full of info and interesting to visit with. Still spendy for a family of 6 above 13 years old. $60 less a dollar for military discount. My opinion, for older kids try elsewhere.

Glad you visited, and that you found the outside area enjoyable. Visitors sometimes equate our interactive exhibits with a focus on children, but the exhibits can be enjoyed by adults as well as kids. Also, there is quite a bit in the galleries that is geared more for adults. The design is meant to offer something for everyone. Still, you are correct in observing that we are not a traditional historical museum. (Many people like that, others don't.) As for pricing, we're as affordable as other admissions-based family activities of a similar kind in our area. We operate as a not-for-profit and practice annual, zero-based budgeting--meaning we adjust our revenue stream to meet actual costs. If we could be free or charge less, that would be great, but so far no one is willing to fund that kind of operation! Thanks for taking the time to submit a review.

Visited the museum when my son graduated basic camp September 28th; we really enjoyed the exhibits. The tornado basement simulation felt like we were living it. Spent a couple of hours and immensely enjoyed it all. Not huge by any standard but very well laid out and interesting.

Two things to note, McKenzie's Burger Garage is only a couple of blocks away and be sure to visit the Comanche National Museum located behind this museum.

The charge is worth it. It was educational and can be seen comfortably in an afternoon. They accommodated our handicapped people and we all learned something.

This is a nice museum, but we went to 4 others so expected a larger venue. But there were many outside exhibits so guess that makes it larger. The large wooden building that looks like a fort is really a replica of the trading post and Tim was out there to tell all about it, and he knew everything!! Fabulous guy!
Inside we really enjoyed the large satellite map on the floor of the entire Midwest. We spent quite a bit of time looking at that.
Then on to the buffalo, an incredible model to show all the parts that the Native Americans used.
Lots of interactive exhibits throughout including GREAT ones upstairs, really good for kids.
But, I loved the best: the Dinosaurs!!! A traveling exhibit but movable, reacting to a person in front of them by a computer program. Really shows how big they were.
A good place to visit!!!!

My husband and I stopped in while visiting the Wichita Wildlife Refuge.... this place is way bigger than you think, and we had a field day exploring! Bring your kiddos, your hubs, or even a class! This place is super awesome!
