We have enjoyed many wonderful Italian meals at various authentic restaurants, but our favorite is Isle of Capri. The flavors are so pure, so rich! The atmosphere is unique and genuine. It is family run. They are the real deal in every way. They are the least commercial of all the restaurants in town. Their food tastes like it is cooked in a real kitchen...not an industrial style kitchen. They have the best iced tea in town too! Great fried chicken! Awesome bread! Worth every penny! :)

The food is served family style in courses from salad to pasta. Then the main course is what you pick from a large assortment. Everything is made there, Meat is cut there everyday. Italian sausage is made next nearby in a little Italian grocery while Don watches. It is very good food. Love the lamb fries there as a starter.
Servings are huge. Always some to take home.

The food was really good. So much of it. Service was a little slower than usual. I always eat there when I am in town on business. Five guest was well over $100 and no alcohal was on the bill.

Positives: Fantastic steak; tasty pasta; cool, crisp salad; friendly, attentive staff
Negative: high initial cost

After a week in Dallas, we decided to return to Oklahoma City by way of Krebs, specifically to eat at the Isle of Capri. One look at a roadmap will show this is not an insignificant detour.

We'd spent a week in Dallas and ate at some very popular and highly-rated restaurants while there. We enjoyed our time at the Isle of Capri...the meal, the service, and the relaxed atmosphere...far more than any establishment in Big D.

Every visit we review the entire menu, thinking of trying something different, and every time return to the chateaubriand for two, knowing they would serve far more food than both of us could eat at one sitting.

As usual, our server brought a crisp, clean, cool salad...a nice palate cleanser after a day on the road. It was accompanied by bread that was pleasingly crisp on the outside, pleasantly soft on the inside, and hot throughout. A small plate of Muenster cheese and peppers rounded out the first course.

Next came a steaming bowl of pasta, cooked al dente', topped with a sweet and tangy marinara. A platter of garlic-seasoned ribeye steak, cooked to perfection (medium) soon followed, along with their signature french fries.

Don't over-think the fries...this is "Krebs-style" Italian food, not to be confused with New York, New Jersey, Chicago or St. Louis. That's part of the charm...it's not supposed to be like every place else. Some people want steak and potatoes, not steak and pasta. Enjoy them if if you want, forget them if you don't. I usually have a couple, simply because I like them.

We were also treated to samples of other menu items, including a small plate of Linguini Alfredo. The Alfredo sauce was the best I've ever tried...and I've had a lot to compare with, as I've eaten at fine Italian restaurants in all the cities mentioned in the preceding paragraph and more. Alfredo has never been my favorite, but I'll order it at the Isle of Capri in the future.

Several servers visited the table during our leisurely meal, but each had a purpose. More importantly, they took time not only to inquire about our current needs, but to offer additional information and bring other items as well. Too many servers remain circumspect, even aloof, during a meal. This is particularly true in small towns. Our glasses were never empty and we didn't have to ask for refills. At the end of the meal they were pleased to bring a couple of boxes for leftovers.

At a bit over $50.00, the initial cost of this meal was high. But we took home as much as we ate, and three adult children all had supper from the leftovers. It's tough to feed five people a fine steak meal for $10.00 each. (Had they been with us, they'd have gotten a salad but each would have also incurred a $7.00 set-up charge.)

Prior to this visit, our most recent visit was in October, 2011. We had a similarly great experience then. The Isle of Capri continues to be a "destination" restaurant we travel to for special occasions.

Krebs has a long-standing reputation as Oklahoma's "Little Italy". Visitors can choose from three restaurants. Isle of Capri is our personal favorite. We'll continue to make the trip whenever possible, and are already looking forward to our next trip there.
