The tacos were very good. I would have liked a margarita, but they only served beer.

I’m a bit leery when a motel desk clerk recommends the next door eatery, but – WOW – was the lady at Blackwell, OK’s Comfort Inn recommendation of Los Potros correct when said, “You’ll like it.” Lots of Mexican decorations and music (a bit too loud for seniors). It’ll take you 10 minutes just to read the extensive menu. Four of us chose different dishes, even requesting some changes from the menu … which was happily done. Being authentic Mexican, the food was mild compared to Tex-Mex. Our dinners were al-most excellent, served hot, large portions, very reasonably priced. Only complaint from any of us four: The guacamole was too mild, but she fixed that by adding. Next time we travel northern Oklahoma on I-35, we’ll defi-nitely stop at Los Potros.

There's not a lot to recommend in the dink town of Blackwell, Oklahoma. Los Potros is the exception.Stepping through the doors gives you a feeling of stepping out of small town America and into small town Mexico. The speakers play cumbia music. The walls, ceiling, and decor scream Little Mexico at you. And the smells that asail you begin permeating your senses with expectations of joy and fulfillment. This is not TEX-MEX...This is MEXICAN!
The menu is bilingual and numbered for ease of ordering, but there are several specials not on the menu that should be tried. The Mexican Shrimp cocktail, for instance: large prawn floating amongst larger chunks of avacado in an oceanic glassfull of gaspacho and salsa. A tasty delight worth the extra 5 minutes off the I-35 corridor.
