In the permanent collection, the works are grouped by time period, which I found rather uninspired. When they do group by movement or theme though, the curator shines. The collections on Realism and Impressionism were well presented and educational. I hope they expand their focus on technology and art, as that is the reason to visit. The current exhibit, About Light, is unique and accessible. I don't know what the next major art movement will be, but a museum such as BIAA that takes a chance on local artists and new media, could be the incubator.

A great place to go, whether on a Sunday afternoon, or a lunch hour. The artwork is wonderful. However, the one drawback is that the eatery has both limited fare and limited hours. Since the eatery is now run by Youngstown State University's food service, the selection is limited to wraps, sandwiches, soups, regular coffee, and soft drinks. It is also only open weekdays.

They get pieces from all over the world for different lengths of time. Their in house collection is impressive. First class operation.

We visited the Butler to view artwork, and enjoyed the museum. My only dissatifaction was in the parking and how the area around the museum was, it made us feel less likely to return.

This is an American-only art museum very close to Youngstown State University. The Butler Institute has an amazing collection of American artists (impressionists, native, modern, etc). In a city that lost so much with the decadence of the steel industry, this attraction is a bright spot (and free!)
