“Very Nice Experience At Sunrise Cafe”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 4, 2011

My wife and I decided to try eating at Sunrise Cafe last Saturday evening. The place was already busy at 6:00 when our reservation was. People came and were turned away that did not have reservations. The appearance of the font does not impart a good meal and ambiance, but that is Yellow Springs! We were greeted and seated promptly and waited on quickly-all of which had been complaints by other reviewers. There are nice cozy booths and a neat old bar with seating. It appears that martinis may be widely sold as I never heard so much shaking of iced drinks before. They have some variety in the beer line, and that is a big plus for us. The rolls that came with the meal were flavored with rosemary and were very moist and tasty. The salads were made with fresh lettuce like we cannot get in the market anymore and the dressings were very good. We both had a chicken meal and noticed how fresh the chicken was. I had the chicken in a Greek setting and there was plenty. It also tasted great. My wife had chicken marinated in balsamic vinegar and also liked it. We were too full for dessert but the list looked good. We will be back. The difference between Sunrise and the top-rated Winds is that the Winds is limited to about four meals, greatly limiting choices. Sunrise has something for everyone, including some vegan choices.

“Great place for breakfast”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 29, 2011

I eat breakfast at the Sunrise a few times a year, after biking from Xenia. The food has always been excellent. The food takes longer to arrive than in a "fast food" restaurant, but that is because it is not FAST FOOD! They hand prepare all of it, so it is worth the wait. You can eat a very healthy meal and vegetarians are covered on the extensive menu. I will enjoy breakfast at the Sunrise in the future.

“We'll definitely go back and back for more good food, service, and ambiance.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 28, 2011

The Sunrise Cafe is a treasure to visit--it's got cozy, comfortable booths, friendly service, interesting art shows, a creative menu from steaks to vegan dishes with weekly specials (we had the salmon crepes), great selection of drinks, delicious desserts (we had the key lime pie-to-die-for), and a relaxed atmosphere. It's a place to get out of the rush of everyday life, but if you are in a rush, be sure and let them know and they'll make an extra effort for you. We've been several times and it always lives up to our expectations.

“Never again!”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 17, 2011

After eating at The Winds last month, I was excited to try Yellow Springs second vegetarian friendly restaurant; Sunrise Cafe.

CHEER:
*The art work through-out the facility was very interesting.

JEERS:
*Rude wait-staff and management.
*Slow service.
*Poor service.
*All food was -disgusting. [We had: vegans, vegetarians and meat eaters in our group. Everyone complained that their food was uneatable]
*Dark, dimly lit room. Had more of a 'bar' feel and not a nice restaurant.
*Out-side door and signage make it hard to find this restaurant. Once you locate the door you are still confused if it belongs to a restaurant due to all the 'papers/flyers' posted all over it and the windows.
*Tables and floors could use a better cleaning between customers.
*Felt rushed through our meal.

Even though we arrived BEFORE the restaurant closed AND we were seated, given menus, tableware and water we were still treated EXTREMELY rude. Our waitress asked us if we were ready to order and we politely said it would be one more sec, to which she replied in a snotty tone "Well, technically we are CLOSED!" and then storms off.

We will never eat here again and I would not recommend this facility to anyone. If you have standards for your food and service I would steer clear of this hole in the wall and eat a few doors down at "The Winds". It is MUCH nicer there and the food is head and shoulders tastier.

“Great for breakfast, lunch and dinner”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 10, 2011

This little cafe is well worth the trip if you are not from around the area. The food is excellent. Breakfast, lunch and dinner everything on the menu is unique and great. From homemade jams and pies to even a vegan menu. Not to mention the martini bar after 9pm. yum yum!! It's a great place to eat before or after a hike or bike ride as the cafe is close to the bikeway and several great hiking areas!! Don't miss it!!
