Description: The Olde Jaol facility was built in 1865, and was claimed to be the finest sheriff facility of its kind. In 1977 the Wayne county sheriffs department was relocated across the street to a new facility. Subsequently, the old jail was registered as a historical landmark in 1980 and in 1995 The Olde Jaol Steakhouse / Tavern was given life. We have an excellent reputation for quality and service.Today, the Olde Jaol houses the finest in food and hospitality. We recommend our Certified Angus Beef® steak entrées. Only 8 percent of beef is tasty enough to meet the brand’s high standards. It’s simply the tastiest, juiciest, most tender beef you’ll ever have.

Great food, upscale atmosphere, fair prices, terrific presentation, a good choice for a dinner out, with a funky little bistro attached for lighter meals.

The Olde Jaol is an excellent restaurant. There are two parts to it, which really need to be addressed separately:

The Pub/Tavern is a great place to go for some food & drinks. The onion rings they serve are amazing -- they're based on the old recipe used by Bishops Drive In (closed years ago). The rest of the food is regular pub fare.

Fine Dining:
The fine dining part of the restaurant is in the basement of the building next to the tavern, and is located where the old jail cells used to be. The food has always been excellent, and the service very good. The atmosphere is amazing -- it's a great place for a romantic date, or to meet for a formal company function. Their prime rib is the best in town.

Fun place to hang out with friends, a little noisy but again it is a bar. Good food, good location, good times

It has been a year or more since my wife and I dined here, and it will be a while until we return. My wife ordered a "short" beer and the waitress brought a tall. We didn't say anything. However her hearing problems didn't stop there. I ordered the prime rib. If the waitress hadn't been open-mouth chewing her gum she might have hear my order correctly. Instead, she brought me the sirloin.
The restaurant's vegetables were from a bag, maybe frozen, the waitress did not know. What restaurant in an agricultural community serves that type of sub-par sides? So I decided on the onion rings, which were good, but sparse.
My wife's taco salad came out with cold chili, not room temperature, or warm as it should be. The burger in the chili was disgustingly cold. Turned off by the failure, she opted for the club. By the time it arrived my steak would have been cold or eaten. All in all, the experience was not worth the price.
