One of many great state parks in Ohio. Located just outside the quaint town of Wilmington, this is a perfect place to get away for a couple of days
We got back late last night. We left then because the weather radar showed a line of storms moving in and it is no fun packing up a campsite and pop-up camper in the rain.
friendly people, as with all state parks quality stuff for sale. They also had an ice cream and pizza shop. We did not try any pizza since four of the five employees quit their jobs a few hours before, but the aroma was great. There is a great outdoor seating on the backside over looking the lake through some woods. They sell most of the camping stuff to if you forgot to pack
great place, well laid out. There are bathrooms, and water close to all sites. The showers are not as close, but easily accessible. The entire campground is wooded, but the majority of sites allow for awning. unfortunately, ours did not. the trees were too close to the asphalt parking pad - no big deal.
The bathrooms are clean. Not elegant but clean. This is a green campground so you need to take care of your own trash
Great lake. the boat ramp is easily accessible and not too steep. The one finger by the ramp has one end that is full of lily pads - pretty cool. Our beach was okay. It has a lot of little rocks and not as much sand, but easily walked upon. the parking is elevated so be prepared to walk up a hill.
The lake is good size and is 10hp limit, perfect for us and our kayaks. We spend about six hours paddling around before we went in because the sunblock was wearing off. and we saw about 2/3 of the lake. There is also a little island in the lake. We did float for a bit and watched some sail boat races.
buy wood from the little house just outside the park entrance $5.00 bundle and it is always dry
book in advance, the best sites go early
be sure you have all the proper licenses etc. - the park is regularly patrolled by rangers.
keep smartphone with you to check the weather radar, nothing worse that packing in the rain
store your food high or inside - a lot of raccoons, and they are not afraid of people
