“Make some binoculars available please”

Wexford Wildfowl Reserve
Reviewed November 25, 2013

I do like a bit of bird watching but we didn't have our own binoculars with us and it would have been nice to rent some, the Slobs are big! It's an interesting spot, the pump house etc. the info film is well worth watching.

Thank Liz M

If you are into birdwatching or just nature then you must visit here especially in the Autumn/Winter when all the geese arrive. The Visitor Centre is clean & welcoming with toilet facilities & lots of information on the birds & other wildlife.

This is mainly a place to visit if you're a birdwatcher or interested enought ot spend a little while waiting for birds to show up. There are usually ducks and geese around but there are other less common species depending on the time of year or how long you're prepared to wait. Younger children tend to get bored fairly quickly. Since it doesn't cost anything to visit its worth an hour of so of your time. Bring binoculars.

This is one of the best bird-watching spots I have been to anywhere in the world and it is well looked after. There are plenty of hides to observe the local wildfowl. The best period for wildfowl, particularly the Greenland white-fronted geese, is the winter time, as this is their winter stronghold. However, anytime of the year is great for a variety of birds and wildlife. The indigenous Irish Hare is plentiful in this area and can be seen pouncing around the vast expanses of rich 'slobs' (reclaimed land from the sea). This is a brilliant spot for anyone with a keen interest in wildlife at any time of the year. Marsh Harriers, Northern Harrier, Hen Harrier, Buzzard, Greenland white-fronted geese, the odd crane, short-eared owl, etc. are some of the many species that can be seen here. The only downfall I'd have about this place is that one or two if the staff who work here (who seem to be the wildlife rangers) are a bit arrogant. Other than that, a lovely place to enjoy bird watching.
