Owner description: Ohio's largest and most beautiful cavern. Tours take guests through two different parts of the cavern. The Historic Tour begins at the site of discovery and includes the part that was originally explored from 1897 to 1925. The Natural Wonder Tour takes guests on a 1 mile walk through parts discovered after 1925. It includes the largest stalactite in Ohio, The Crystal King, along with many other marvelous formations and colors. The Winter Tour is the only tour offered from October 1st through April 30th. It is a hybrid tour, showing guests highlights from both the Natural Wonder and Historic tours.

We decided to meet up with some family and go to the Ohio Caverns. I remember going there as a child and thought it was amazing then, but as an adult it truly was amazing! There are two tours, the historic and the natural wonder tour. (you get a $4 discount if you do both). Our tour guides were John and Eric and they were great, very friendly and very informative. The natural wonder tour was the best tour because you see a lot more color and beauty of the caverns. However, the historic tour was of a different part of the cave and we are glad we did this one because we got the background on how the cave came to be. There isn't much to do in the West Liberty area aside from the Piatt Castles (which we did). If you're looking for restaurants, go to Springfield or Dayton.

We just went here on a cloudy day as something else in the area to do with kids and were pleasantly surprised. Staff was friendly and knowledgeable and the experience for kids and adults was very unique. The caverns are really pretty cool and something you don't get to do all the time. We had a 10 month old and a 2.5 year old and the 2.5 really enjoyed it too. It was about a 45 minute guided walking tour in the caves. Would definitely not bring a stroller, if you have young kids you definitely need to carry them. Great spot for a few hours of entertainment for something different.

Beautiful location! We took the combination Historic & Natural Wonder tours, took about 2 hours. The guides were knowledgeable, and the caverns were very interesting and an awesome sight to see! The caverns are 54º, a jacket or sweatshirt is advisable. Cameras are allowed. Very nice gift shop. Would definitely like to visit again!

I been in many caves and still
Learned something new. They have a new interance now. The Crystal King is highlight of the tour. A good way to cool down on a hot day.

My wife and I drove the one hour trip to Ohio Caverns on a Sunday afternoon. The drive was pleasant, and reminded me of the days of my youth with "Sunday drives." The Ohio Caverns is located in a very beautiful part of Ohio with rolling hills and picturesque farms. At the site, there are basically two tours to choose from: The Natural or or the Historic. We chose the Natural tour which took about an hour. You take a hike underground and get to see a natural geologic phenomena of Ohio with stalactites and stalagmites which are really interesting. These are not huge formations by any means, but just the same, worth seeing. Come prepared with a jacket as the underground temp is always 54 degrees and don't be shy about water dripping on your head. This was a great little afternoon drive and site which we both really enjoyed! The tour we took was not full of verbal presentations, but they just let the geology speak for itself. Having been open to the public since 1925, this is really a hidden Ohio gem for sure! We will be back for the other tour! Note that one must climb some 60 steps to return to the surface -- not for unconditioned [i.e. older heart or lung patient]. Lastly, the only food we saw were chips, candy and such in the gift shop. There was no snack bar, so if you come, bring a picnic lunch as there is a shelter pavilion at the top of the hill. We saw a group event in the pavilion during our visit.
