This is a lovely dark restaurant with a lovely dark bar. I was there alone for dinner and dined there as well with a friend. The food was excellent and the service was timely, efficient, and responsive. This is a traditional place to meet new people (i.e. a meet market) especially on Friday night. Weekends it seems to go a little upscale. A lot of folks were wearing business dress (suits and ties for men) and reservations are a must. Even the bar is used for reserve seating.
The bar is crowded (or was any time I was there) and noisy. It's a great place to people watch and there is music every night (a piano player who also plays the sax very, very well). The wine list is decent and the cheese plate is absolutely excellent
