We found this zoo well maintained and walkable. They even have a train ride for $2.50 around there safari area. It's not free, but a nice way to spend the day with your family.

The zoo gets better every year. A zoom membership is highly recommended because you need more than one day to take it all in.

This zoo has it all! Lions, and tigers oh my! You will not be disappointed. Every animal is at this zoo.
Great areas for picnics, walking trails, rail rides, merry go rounds. I take children from schools every year, and have never been disappointed.
The walking trail actually crosses over the freeway, which is exciting!
Food is pricey, I suggest you bring your own snacks, and water.
Don't forget to bring a camera, take pictures of the bald eagles, very majestic!

Spent the day at the zoo as an added attraction to our 2 night camping trip to Archbold. It was only about 50 minutes from Sauder Village, a lot closer than we thought. We went because of a quick paragraph about the polar bear cubs in the hotel's newspaper. We were not disappointed.
The cubs were out with their mom and were acting just like babies should be acting!!! The enclosure is big enough for them to run and play and thrill the crowds that come just to see them without being over done. There is also a baby elephant (bonus for me!). The zoo is well maintained, and planted with beautiful seasonal flowers. I especially like that many of the historic original building are still in use today. The only disappointing thing was that their aquarium was being renovated, however, you could see that it looks like a total rebuild is taking place in the original space and I will be making plans to revisit in 2015 when the fish are in their new homes! One thing, bring a water bottle as fountains are few and lines to any refreshment stand were long. It also looked like you could bring in a picnic lunch. There were lots of places to sit and munch in the shade.
