“A wonderful vacation!!!”
Reviewed June 30, 2007

This resort is wonderful!!! We found out about it through Tripadvisor when we were looking for a place to stay in Ohio that was near Cedar Point. We were going to stay at Castaway Bay but then read some reviews that said it wasn't very clean and that it could use some renovations. We found the Kalahari and we're happy we did. The resort and waterpark are very clean. The staff there is very accomodating. This just isn't a resort for little children our 15 year old had blast. She enjoyed the slides, lazy river, hot tub, and outdoor pool area. The arcade downstairs has plenty of games and some nice prizes you can get with your tickets. They have a small indoor minature golf area which costs $3.50 per club to play. The restaurants and shops there are a little pricey but I guess that is with any resort. The food is good though. The downstairs cafe has great pizza and some good breakfast plates that are reasonable. There is also a Candy Hut where you can get delicious candies, candy apples, and ice cream. Our daughter had a candy apple almost every day! The rooms have refrigerators and microwaves in them which we look for when we book a hotel. We stocked up on snacks and drinks at the Super Walmart which is right down the street from the resort. Our room was the Nomad room which had a balcony overlooking the water fountains in front of the resort. The water is also home to some beautiful swans which you can feed from the bridge area that connects the front of the resort to the parking lot. The parking lot is a little bit of a walk to the front door of the resort but they offer valet service for a fee. They have a horse drawn carriage every night from 5p.m. til around 10p.m. that goes around the parking lot area for $5 per person. The local restaurants that we tried and suggest are Olive Garden and Buffalo Wild Wings. Great food! There is so much more to say about the resort but you should just check out their website. It gives information on their addition of more rooms and the adding on to the waterpark. It also will show you some wonderful pictures of the resort itself. This resort is terrific! We can't wait to go back again.

  • Liked — The cleanliness of the resort itself and the friendly staff.
  • Disliked — The internet access had a fee when used in room.

We have stayed at this resort 3 times. It is by far the best resort in the area. Rooms are very clean. The hotel is expanding so our room had a view of a port-a-potty and major construction but we were'nt in the room much so I did'nt ask to be moved. We have 9, 6, & a 2 year old everyone had a blast. If you are traveling with other people the combination suites are the best they have a full kitchen and living room. We put the kids to bed and were able to meet in the living room and talk without waking them up.

My families stay at Kalahari was great. The atmosphere, the shops, the waterpark, the service made the stay really enjoyable. We didn't want to leave at the end of stay because we were so impressed with our stay. We can't wait to book another trip there soon. I would defiantly recommend Kalahari to everyone I meet because everything there is wonderful.

We never been to an indoor waterpark so we had no idea what to expect. This hotel looks brand new and the staff was so nice. There is not need to leave this place unless you want to go to Cedar Point. We had a room with a small bar in it with two televisions. Two unique features in our room was our shower had two showerheads and the two queen size beds could be pulled up against the wall (pull-down beds). We were there the last week of May and the hotel was not busy at all with no waiting for the water rides.

The indoor and outdoor swimming areas were fantastic. The inside area did not have a strong smell of chlorine similar to other indoor pools. The staff was nice and the food was good.

Another surprise for us was on the first floor there was a huge video game and minature golf area similar to the birthday pizza places.

One thing I would change is this hotel sells daily passes so you have people in the waterpark who are not staying there which ruins the private only and may make it overcrowded. But the hotel indoor waterparks seem like an excellent idea to take your kids to since it is so hot outside.

We just got back from the Kalahari a few hours ago. We heard about the Kalahari from friends who visit yearly only for the day. We NEVER expected the resort to be so beautiful, friendly, and spotless. We read a review on this site with not so good reviews that concerned us, but, proven all wrong. Yes it's very loud there - there's thousands of gallons of water flowing, it's going to be loud. There were plenty of lifeguards around, and yes, they do their job. We heard many of them blowing their whistles. Try the surfing and body surfing, it's awesome. There are many private huts to rent inside and out and most of them were not being used. It is recommended that you book them a day early to ensure you get one. Just as anything else, there's only so many, and not one for everyone. If you're slow to the punch, there may not be one available. The ones outside are really nice. They're in a private section by the bar that only renters are allowed in. The huts have nicer lounge chairs than the ones poolside, and each hut has a table and it's own TV. A few had their own refrigerator and microwave too. Although the water park area is loud, the hotel is very quite. The rooms are very large. We had the smallest of rooms (Hut) but it was VERY roomy. We had a peak at a Two Room Family Suite. We will probably do that next time so that we can get up in the morning and move around without disturbing the boys sleep due to the privacy door. Would also suggest a Lodge or Combination Suite. Of course those two are a little more expensive. We were on the first floor which was nice, the water park was right down the hall. It was a little chilly outside of the room, so take a very light jacket or shirt, especially to the pool, it's 85 degrees in there so you will freeze when you leave! The coffee in the room was just fine. We've had the same brand in other resorts. There are several choices there for food, yes, it's expensive, but, not over priced any more than any other resort. We, as well as others, were wise in our packing. The rooms have refrigerators and microwaves, so we took our own food/drinks, filled the frig, ate breakfast and lunch in our room. If you choose to rent a locker, it's $10, and you get $5 back when you turn in the key. If you stay at the hotel, there is no need for a locker. Go back to the room for drinks/snacks or take them into the water park with you. Yes, you're allowed to take in your own goodies. The ice cream in the lobby is the best we ever had - we had it every night. Try the Fruit Loops one (blue) it's just like the cereal. Our boys (9 and 5) never got bored, just worn out. The place is spotless, just as clean or cleaner than Disney World Resorts. The outdoor water park is even more surprising, you feel like you're on a beach, not in Ohio. Service was great all over the resort, such friendly staff. We were missing our TV remote when we got there. We didn't report it after 10:00 PM, within 15 minutes, it was delivered with numerous appologies with it. There is nothing bad to say about the resort. The only thing to say is WOW! and expect the unexpected. We are already planning on another trip in July. We will probably stay longer allowing two days inside and two days outside. Our boys (and us) say it's better than Disney. We can't wait to see the entire expansion that's going to be done in December which includes a wave pool. You really do feel like you are a world away. There's no reason not to stay here.

  • Liked — The atmosphere and room accomodations/cleaness
  • Disliked — Matresses could of been a little more comfortable and linens a little "softer"

I have a family of 5, my husband and I, a 16 year old, 3 year old, and a 1 year old, and this resort was perfect for all of us. My 16 year old daughter spent about 70% of her time in the waterpark, 20% in the arcade, and even got a mother daughter manicure and pedicure with me. It was a miracle she only spent one night on her cell phone!!!! And it was bragging to her friends how much fun she was having. She actually willingly watched her brother and sister so my husband and I could check out Kahunaville which is this nightclub actually attached to the hotel. Which was fun being able to drink and not worry about getting back to the hotel. And they serve dinner there and the steak and shrimp were yummy. My three year old was a trooper and went down all the big people raft rides (the lifegaurds were wonderful and let her ride down in between my legs). She didnt want to get out of the wave pool after we got in. Also the resort has lots of activities my younger kids loved. They decorated cookies and ate them and did some arts and crafts stuff that we brought home kinda like souvenirs. My one year old doesnt even crawl yet so he just enjoyed being in the lazy river by his sisters and sitting in the baby swing in one of the toddler areas. I am definitaly coming back next year.
