I just stayed at the kalahari this past weekend with my boyfriend and could not get over how much fun it was! Its not just a place for kids as I had originally thought-There are so many things to do we didnt stop going for the entire 4 days. The staff was very nice (especially the concierge) especially after our car decided to die in the parkinglot. there was barely a wait for the waterslide lines and these rides were better than any i had experience at six flags darien lakes water park. We got a whirlpool suit with a balconey facing the pool and it was a great view. Kahunaville (restaurant in the hotel) is very fun on weekend nights-the bartenders were crazy and the place was packed-Unfortunatly everything from the drinks to the food was overpriced but in the long run it was worth it! Word to the wise-if you are a female and you decide to get a massage make sure the person doing it doesnt weigh 100 pounds less than you. I am average weight but my massage therapist (a young man) was about 104 pounds at the most-i didnt really get the full effect of the swedish massage-i would request a big strong woman next time

My 12 year old son and I stayed at the Kalahari at the end of June. The resort had only recently opened and the staff was still putting some finishing touches on the decor. However, the public areas and rooms were very clean and pleasant, with the African safari theme throughout. Our room was $129. It included 2 free waterpark passes, which cost $20 each on weekdays and $25 each on weekends. This made the overall rate very reasonable.

You can check-in as early as noon. In our case, a room was ready. But even is one isn't, you still get your waterpark passes that you can begin using. You can use the passes until 3PM on checkout day.

There's a huge splash area for younger kids and a large outdoor pool. We didn't use either one, but they looked fun. Instead we focused on the multiple slides, the 'Lazy River' slow float raft, and the indoor surfing ride. All were fun and the surfing is a unique experience. The staff at the surf ride were very helpful and patient. They occasionally even took some very young kids for a ride. (I'm not sure if they have an age or height limit, but kids that looked about 7 or 8 seemed to be riding frequently and having a great time.)

We had a great time and would go back again. In my opinion 2 nights would be plenty, as it does get repetitious after awhile. But I'm sure others could happily stay much longer. I believe the resort plans to greatly increase the size of the indoor park, which would provide more variety. Actually, there is some type of water coaster that looks about 95% complete. It wasn't operating when we were there however.

We just got back from the Kalahari yesterday evening. We loved the atmosphere, the waterpark, the staff, everything.....except the mice. We had a combination room on the fourth floor and had several (at least 3) mice roaming the room. Our first call to the front desk resulted in security?!? coming to check it out. He laid a glue trap and told us to call him when we caught something. We left for dinner and came back to more mice running through the livingroom. None dumb enough to walk in the trap. This time it was three calls and 45 minutes before the same security personnel came to investigate again. He called it a "signal 11." That was our first clue that this was not their first experience with rodents. It had its own signal number. After watching the mice run for awhile and setting a few more traps the night manager came to escort us to a new room on the 6th floor. He admitted that this has been a problem because of the new construction and they were working to fix the problem. I will tell you that we were completly compensated and the staff was very attentive. We love the resort but want people with small children to just be aware that mice may be roaming around until they get this under control.
