“3 words describe the "Breakers Express" : Awful, disgusting, and filthy”

Upon arriving at Breakers Express we were disturbed to find that they accidentally booked our reservation here instead of the Hotel Breaker we had originally planned to stay due to the fact that they promised us all of the ammenities of the Hotel Breaker: walking distance of park, indoor/outdoor pool, beach accessibility none of which are found at the Breaker Express. We then shrugged it off and decided it was an accident and finally after an hour of awful, unhelpful customer service at the front desk we received our room key. upon entering our room the first thing we stumble upon is wallpaper, not on the walls, but on the floor. The smell of mold & cigarettes, in a non smoking room, give you an instant headache and we immediately retreated with disgust. I can't tell you much else about the hotel butter than the fact that the first 1 hour at this establishment was the worst experience I've ever had at a hotel.

Based on Tripadvisor reviews, I was not expecting anything better than average at the Breaker's Express. Check in was pleasant and fairly quick. As for cleanliness of the room, it was below average. I truly wanted to be able to make a better report than this. Upon initial inspection of the room, I quickly and easily determined that someone had been sick in the bathroom and it had not been cleaned up very well. While it is agreed that housekeeping should have taken care of this...I feel I must also say that if someone in our travel party is sick...can we not at least clean up after ourselves properly? I always travel with a can of Lysol. That being said, the location was terrific. We really appreciated being this close to the park, having the Cedar Point travel voucher and the hour of early entry. Breakfast is not part of the deal. There is a Dairy Queen and a McDonald's very close by. We did receive a phone charge on our final bill. We did not make any phone calls from the room. Be advised and review your bill upon checkout. Next stays at the Breaker's will include the unplugging of the phone and a container of Clorox wipes.

Hotel room was basic and clean except for the bathroom which was dirty. Staff were pleasant. We bundled this hotel stay with cedar point day passes and breakfast at Dairy Queen. It was a great value for the bundle and saved us money. The breakfast at Dairy Queen was average. It would be nice to have an option of McDonalds breakfast in the package. Free parking pass was also nice and being able to enter the park an hour earlier than other non guests was awesome!! We were able to enjoy no lines in the first 5 rides that we went on. I would recommend staying at this hotel for the value and package options!!

Cedar point is the main attraction in Sandusky Ohio drawing number of visitors every American summer.

There are handful of cedar properties close to the park and breakers express is a decent hotel that can be used to visit cedar point. It is around 5 min drive away from the park and provides the standard cedar perks like - one hour early entry into the park, free parking at cedar point, discounted ticket rates visiting cedar point. These are provided if a guest stays at any cedar property like castaway bay, breakers hotel, breakers express, sand castle suites etc. The hotel is fairly big, with couple of hundred rooms and was recently constructed.

This hotel charges around $100 dollars a night and the main reason for the high tariff is for the above perks and it's location. The other hotels around the park managed by cedar fair charge much more and for the budget conscious, it is a reasonable alternative. There are other motels close by like days inn, which cost less but some of them did not seem to be maintained well when I drove around. On route 250, there are other hotels which are decent that are 15 mins drive away but do not provide the perks provided when you stay at the cedar property. With the free parking and discounted tickets (not putting any monetary value on the early entry which is also quite useful), it saves another $20 when visiting the cedar point park.

The checkin was fairly good. It does take couple of minutes for every guest as the check in typically involves also in handing over the cedar point tickets, free parking coupons etc. There is a display board in the lobby announcing which of the rides would be open by 9 am that are open only for the early entry guests staying at cedar properties. Even though the check in is at 3 pm, lot of guests arrive in the morning and so did I. The room was available at 10 am when I reached and that was handy. Also in the common areas there are beautiful cedar point ride photos and they are quite attractive and enhance the ambiance.

The room I stayed in was basic and had two queen beds. The room was clean but the beds were a bit too soft. The bathroom was of a good size and was clean too. The A/C worked fine and they had a split model. Free internet through wireless is present that is handy. The TV is a old CRT one with basic channels. Now, the general idea is to not spend too much time in the room and hence these did not feel like a major issue. Break fast options are going to dairy queen or McDonald which are close by and i did not visit either. If people want other options, there are alternatives on route 250 which is 10 min drive from the cause way. There is a pool open from 9 am to 11 pm and also a hot jacuzzi outside for use in the nights. I did not use them but they looked clean and well maintained. The hotel was busy when i visited and also seemed quite safe.

Parking is free at the hotel too. There is no transportation shuttle service from the hotel to the park and you need to drive to reach the park. Google maps confuses the directions with breakers hotel and it is handy to map directions to the castaway address that is right across the breakers express hotel.

For folks who want to take small break, it is possible to get your hand stamped for re-entry and come back to the hotel for a short relaxation from the park. On this front it is also a compromise where it does not provide quick access like breakers which is right outside the park, but without paying for parking again you can come back to breakers express too for a short rest with a quick 5 min drive. On week ends, park is open late night and this might make sense in some cases.

On my visit, I came back at night and crashed due to the activities at cedar point. If that is the plan in visiting this hotel, it serves you well. Cedar point is a super park and needs two days to sample all the rides and the breakers express enables that objective. I took a two day ride and slide pass and that provides some discount for the trip.

Summary: Provides good value for visiting cedar point. Do not expect any bells and whistles and provides a decent night stay, close to the park.

I'm basing this review on the fact that we had brought a youth group.

We did a three-night stay, purchasing a Cedar Point package for two rooms' worth of youths and adults. One of the things that most attracted us to the hotel was the option of getting discounted Cedar Point tickets AND having early entry to the park, even though the hotel was not on Cedar Point property. In addition to the discounted tickets, staying here gives you FREE PARKING, which is a huge savings (I believe $20 for a van, perhaps $13 for a car).

The location, just off the Point, was extremely convenient...just five minutes away from the parking lot.

The rooms were basic and clean. Don't expect fancy amenities...there's no refrigerator (my one complaint), no breakfast (though you could purchase a breakfast package that included breakfast at the nearby Dairy Queen), and a basic layout. HOWEVER, in its favor were QUEEN BEDS, FREE internet and a nice pool area for the price.

Wheelchair-bound Guests will want to note that both the pool and the spa have lifts to gain access to the water.

Security for the hotel was also good, with cards required for entry at every side/back entrance.

Considering the other Cedar Point hotels were very expensive, Breakers Express proved to be a great value for rollercoaster enthusiasts.

Stayed overnight on 05/30/12. The hotel is clean, the rooms are comfortable and breakfast special with the Dairy Queen across the street from the hotel was surprisingly good.

With the Cedar Point package, this hotel works really quite well.

Checked in here before visiting Cedar Point. It was clean enough, but very basic. Beds were not the most comfortable. Good for a quick & reasonable one night stay if you are going to Cedar Point.
