“FAMILYSUMMERTRIP”
Reviewed August 1, 2012

MY family reserved 7 rooms, two suite and 5 kings for the weekend of July 20 to July 22 for our family summer trip. We received a group rate and we were happy with this rate until we got to the hotel. The hotel is very clean and just opening up a month ago so I was told. The pool was opening but not the indoor waterpark. The beds were very comfortable except for the bunk beds. Some of the bunkbeds were broken, sliding doors were not working to the king bedrooms, and some of the doors to the rooms did not lock. The check in was ok but you can tell everyone was new at the hotel because they kept asking one person for the answers which made check in slow. They kept changing the policy for the hotel as we were staying there which made us think that they were doing this while we were there. The housekeeper knot on everyone door at 9:00 am to tell us to check out so she can clean the rooms. The check out time was at 11:00 am. I filed a complaint with the hotel manager about this. I would love to go back becasue the hotel was clean and in a nice location for Cedar Point Amusement Park.

Room Tip: Please check the locks on the doors, check the sliding door to the king bedrooms and check the bunkb...

Overall, we had a nice stay. Big pool open, the rest of the waterpark area is sectioned off, but looks close to being done. Check-in was quick, neat key-"cards" are actually waterproof wristbands.
We were told to park on the back side of the hotel and use the stairs to go up to our room...better service would have been to let us know where the elevators was and how to get to our room if we wanted to use it.
2-Bed room was nice-sized, big wastebaskets in bathroom and main room, wicker accessories, plenty of towels. Beds had 4 pillows on each, comfortable. A/C was a little loud, but not so much as to interfere with getting a good night's sleep.
Bar was hopping when I took a look around 10pm, but Olympics were on, too. Juice machine was on and available in the evening.
Breakfast was the weakest part of the stay - we ended up going to Cracker Barrel. Hotel breakfast was cereal, a few bananas, some muffins, juice, coffee.
It seemed like there was still some learning going on with the staff on how to present to customers, and there is work being done inside and out. Arcade room has only 1/2 of games working, TV was not able to turn on.

Room Tip: Ask ahead of time if being close to elevator or pool is important to you...

This was a very good choice for our visit to Sandusky. We met 2 other families here for a get-away. Rooms were clean, shower nice w/hot water. Beds were very comfortable. The location was near restaurants which was also appreciated. Staff was very helpful and pleasant. Almost didn't go to Sandusky because of the over price accomodations at other resorts - Maui Sands made a very good trip EXCELLENT!

My Family and I (7 adults) stayed at this resort just this past weekend (7/26-7/29). We've been to the area many times and stayed at another resort. Although that resort is top notch, the price is just too high. So I searched the web and found Maui Sands for just 89.99 per night on the weekends. The hotel is very clean and decorated nicely. You can tell this resort will be very nice when the renovations are completed.

We reserved two of the rooms that had 1 king bed and two sets of bunks. Great idea for families. The bunks were a bit more narrow than your normal bunk, therfore it was a bit tight for my now young adults, but they didn't complain. We had plenty of room to move about, privacy (thanks to the sliding doors) and a tv in both of the sleeping areas. The pool is opened, but we didn't have time to enjoy it.

The staff is very nice. Knowing our home state, they even mentioned that one of our former football players is part owner. We knew this before coming and appreciated the connection. Although the resort is doing a great job at re-establishing itself, I would suggest some kind of uniform for staff members. It just looks better.

We spent alllll day Saturday at Cedar Point (which now closes at midnight) so we more or less just slept and showered at the resort. The beds were clean and comfortible which was well welcomed after spending 13 hours at the park.

Overall we enjoyed this resort and for the price, you can't beat it.

Room Tip: The bunks are a bit small, but great if you have young or teenaged children.

I actually live locally, but we are season pass holders to Cedar Point and we wanted to make it more of a "holiday" for the girls so we booked this room for a few days during the 4 th of July. When making the arrangements, the staff was very helpful and polite. When checking in, there was some confusion about the having adjoining rooms. I requested at the time I booked the rooms, yet they didn't have us booked that way. They were able to correct it, but not until they had to go through two more people to get it right. The front staff is very nice, but they seem a little lost at times. There were also only two carts to carry the luggage in..definate downside when checking in our out. We loved the room key wristbands, that was awesome! The rooms were a great value for the money! Cute theme and our rooms were very clean and comfortable. Big downside, I had to go to Walmart to buy a tv for the room where the bunkbeds were, I had four kids with no tv, and they said they couldn't get one for there from another room, total bummer!! Seems like they could have done that! Our big disappointment was that the pool was not open after numerous phone calls were made to ensure it would be for the holiday, so that made it more challenging to keep kids busy since it had rained most of the day and we could not go to cedar point until after dark. Would have been nice to have a information booklet of local restaurants and specials in the area. Nice to have free breakfast, but they need to keep that open until 11:00!!! Overall, we had a pleasant stay and we plan on returning in October for Halloweekends! A special shout out to the very special man who was helping w maid service ( who actually will be the head chef once the restaurant opens) "Doc", thanks for all your help and making our stay even more plesant!!

We stayed here July 11-14. We were very impressed with the overall quality of the hotel. No, the waterpark is not open yet, but contrary to what others have written, the pool was open. The hotel's website states that the waterpark will not be open until spring of 2013. We stayed in a Prince Kuhio suite, which includes a king-size bed and 4 bunk beds.

Pros: Comfortable bed, great pillows, friendly staff, CLEAN room, room key bracelets, good location and free breakfast.
Cons: No TV in the bunk bed area (even though there was a space where one should have been), no hooks on bathroom door to hang clothing, no towel bar in sink area and no informational booklet with nearby restaurants or hotel information.

With that being said, this was overall a great value for the money. If you are looking for a good, clean place to stay in the area, this is a great choice! We had a very pleasant stay.

We just stayed the night the other day and after sleeping 2 nights at another hotel 20 mins away this was a lot better. The hotel is pretty new so things are clean. The water park looks like it will be nice for families but they have BIG competition near by. Front desk people were nice. Our room was a great size for adults and 3 kids. OUr room had a king bed and tv in its own area and then like in just a little area before that was 4 smaller bunk beds. (it wasnt like a room you can only shut the door to the room with the king) there was a vanity area with 2 sinks and then a small fridge and microwave, closet area and nice size bathroom. And for a monday and 100 (with tax) was not a bad deal. It did have free breakfast in the morning but since we went to Cedar Point the day before we were REALLY slow getting up!
