“Great Family Weekend”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 30, 2012

My Family and I (7 adults) stayed at this resort just this past weekend (7/26-7/29). We've been to the area many times and stayed at another resort. Although that resort is top notch, the price is just too high. So I searched the web and found Maui Sands for just 89.99 per night on the weekends. The hotel is very clean and decorated nicely. You can tell this resort will be very nice when the renovations are completed.

We reserved two of the rooms that had 1 king bed and two sets of bunks. Great idea for families. The bunks were a bit more narrow than your normal bunk, therfore it was a bit tight for my now young adults, but they didn't complain. We had plenty of room to move about, privacy (thanks to the sliding doors) and a tv in both of the sleeping areas. The pool is opened, but we didn't have time to enjoy it.

The staff is very nice. Knowing our home state, they even mentioned that one of our former football players is part owner. We knew this before coming and appreciated the connection. Although the resort is doing a great job at re-establishing itself, I would suggest some kind of uniform for staff members. It just looks better.

We spent alllll day Saturday at Cedar Point (which now closes at midnight) so we more or less just slept and showered at the resort. The beds were clean and comfortible which was well welcomed after spending 13 hours at the park.

Overall we enjoyed this resort and for the price, you can't beat it.

Room Tip: The bunks are a bit small, but great if you have young or teenaged children.

I actually live locally, but we are season pass holders to Cedar Point and we wanted to make it more of a "holiday" for the girls so we booked this room for a few days during the 4 th of July. When making the arrangements, the staff was very helpful and polite. When checking in, there was some confusion about the having adjoining rooms. I requested at the time I booked the rooms, yet they didn't have us booked that way. They were able to correct it, but not until they had to go through two more people to get it right. The front staff is very nice, but they seem a little lost at times. There were also only two carts to carry the luggage in..definate downside when checking in our out. We loved the room key wristbands, that was awesome! The rooms were a great value for the money! Cute theme and our rooms were very clean and comfortable. Big downside, I had to go to Walmart to buy a tv for the room where the bunkbeds were, I had four kids with no tv, and they said they couldn't get one for there from another room, total bummer!! Seems like they could have done that! Our big disappointment was that the pool was not open after numerous phone calls were made to ensure it would be for the holiday, so that made it more challenging to keep kids busy since it had rained most of the day and we could not go to cedar point until after dark. Would have been nice to have a information booklet of local restaurants and specials in the area. Nice to have free breakfast, but they need to keep that open until 11:00!!! Overall, we had a pleasant stay and we plan on returning in October for Halloweekends! A special shout out to the very special man who was helping w maid service ( who actually will be the head chef once the restaurant opens) "Doc", thanks for all your help and making our stay even more plesant!!

We stayed here July 11-14. We were very impressed with the overall quality of the hotel. No, the waterpark is not open yet, but contrary to what others have written, the pool was open. The hotel's website states that the waterpark will not be open until spring of 2013. We stayed in a Prince Kuhio suite, which includes a king-size bed and 4 bunk beds.

Pros: Comfortable bed, great pillows, friendly staff, CLEAN room, room key bracelets, good location and free breakfast.
Cons: No TV in the bunk bed area (even though there was a space where one should have been), no hooks on bathroom door to hang clothing, no towel bar in sink area and no informational booklet with nearby restaurants or hotel information.

With that being said, this was overall a great value for the money. If you are looking for a good, clean place to stay in the area, this is a great choice! We had a very pleasant stay.

We just stayed the night the other day and after sleeping 2 nights at another hotel 20 mins away this was a lot better. The hotel is pretty new so things are clean. The water park looks like it will be nice for families but they have BIG competition near by. Front desk people were nice. Our room was a great size for adults and 3 kids. OUr room had a king bed and tv in its own area and then like in just a little area before that was 4 smaller bunk beds. (it wasnt like a room you can only shut the door to the room with the king) there was a vanity area with 2 sinks and then a small fridge and microwave, closet area and nice size bathroom. And for a monday and 100 (with tax) was not a bad deal. It did have free breakfast in the morning but since we went to Cedar Point the day before we were REALLY slow getting up!

Really your happiness with this hotel will be based on WHY you need a room. Ex. Cedar point? Family function? Etc. We paid 69.99 a night for two nights....checkin was quick, easy, the bracelets are cool. Lots of pictures being uploaded with my review. The front desk girls run everything (including cleaning rooms). We came for cedar point and didnt plan on doing anything other than sleeping (and drinking due to awesome onsite bar) at the hotel. Im going to go into the bar review first, skip to next section for room review. Theresa the bartender is new to bar tending but what she lacked in experience she made up for 10 times in personality. Unfortunately the other bar person (Steve?) Seemed to leave the bar in really poor condition. He had a "special" drink he made up....but left no instructions on how to make....and turned off his phone (took 30 min to reach someone that knew what was in it) He also left food in the microwave which drew nats and the bar was not stocked. 1hour later we finally got our first drink. All that said we had a blast hanging out and picking drinks from her little black book to have her try her hand at making. Thereasa worked wonders with what she was handed. I hope she is there for our return!

Ok now on to THE ROOM. Yes they are a little rough. Scuff marks on some furniture, looked like our wall had a little water damage...but CLEAN. Lots of towels, lots of toiletries, coffee, cups...the Hawaiian theme was very nice. We booked a king with bunk beds as they were out of just king, and it was the same price. The bed was REALLY firm to me, but please note I am a soft pillow top sink into the bed loving person. It may not be THAT firm, im just spoiled at home ;) the bunk beds were softer. First night the tv was missing in the bunk area. No big deal to us, we didnt need it. After returning from a long long day if coasters our bed was made, clean towels, new toiletries and a flat screen in the bunk area. Very impressed with service. As far as the review stating there are no outlets...I have no idea what they are talking about. Our room had plenty lol. To us, based on other hotels in the area for 69.99 a night for a cedar point vacation the room was right for price.

Area is NOT a bad area (again was stated in a recent review). Walk to gas station, walmart, applebees, taco bell, and a Sleep Inn (i hear the pool there is open later than midnight). Getting to hotel IS tricky with traffic, but we did it just fine.

Arcade eats tokens. No prizes in crane machines. But ok for a mini break.

Hotel will be worth higher rates when staffed adequately and waterpark/restaurant are open. We would return but wouldn't pay more than 100$ a night "as-is".

Stayed at this hotel over the weekend...good price for the area and cleanliness.
I assume they were clean becasue this was a fairly new hotel- 2 months old

check in- friendly

breakfast- ( I love breakfast, so this dissappointed me) They need to put in more effort- only cereal ( 3 types- lucky charms, raisin bran and cheerios), assorted minimuffins, bread , english muffin and bagels.... ONLY 4 slice toaster- which backed the line up!!!
juice, packet oatmeal with hot water and hard boiled eggs,
coffee and milk in a mini refridgerator- which the door wouldnt stay open....
breakfast was free...so ok if you just wanna get somehting in and get going... not a high point..

rooms- we stayed in a suite with a king bed abnd 4 bunk beds... happened to be a handicap accessible room, so very spacious and appeared clean. 2 tvs... no complaints about the room!

pool- water park wasnt open- we knew that ahead of time... water was cold

Elevator- very slow and only one in the building... faster to take the stairs...

Overall.. i think they still need some time to set up and improve themselves...
It was an interesting themed hotel with well thought fixtures and interiors...I paid an average of 140 dollars each night for 2 nights ( so was surprised to see others paid 80 for the same)- but I bought this directly from the hotel and not a website...

I can see rates increasing once the water park is open....

I was happy with my stay this last weekend, the rate was right and things were still in good shape since they just re-opened 2 months ago. HOWEVER, they are not cleaning the rooms well enough (in fact, under our bathroom vanity was a piece of 2x4 and construction/drywall dust) and the hotel as a whole is not being managed efficiently.
They also are very slow at check in, their system seems a little old.
If I had paid anymore than $80 for a weekend night I would have a completely different attitude toward my stay (for $80, I should have given it a 4 rating, but considering the rates are getting higher already, I based my review on that).
If they want to compete with Great Wolf Lodge and the like (or even if they want to remain open longer than 6 months), they will have to try much harder...
