We have gone to GWL 2 years now on the July 4th weekend - we drove from Ontario via Detroit. The drive was about 6 hours but it was enjoyable with plenty of rest stops along the way. The lodge is the smallest and the oldest of all their locations, but it is also the least expensive. It is located near plenty of shopping and afordable resturants - it is what I would describe as a tourist area. The road is fairly busy, but manageable and it quiets down at night time. The staff at the hotel was frendly and helpful. Check-in was fast and painless. We have stayed in both the "Kid Cabin Suite" and a standard suite. Both rooms were well equiped and clean. All the rooms have microwaves and bar style friges. The kid cabin had a seperate sleeping area for the kids and a second TV. There is a child's activity room and a video game room, Also nightly bedtime stories and other activities to keep the kids ocupied. The water park was a blast - it has a seperate toddler area and medium and big kid areas - suitable for the whole family - but I would think that older teens would get bored quickly. There is a large outdoor zero-depth pool that is fun for the whole family. Over all it is a great family place to stay - worth the drive if you have to make it - but not quite as exciting as some of the bigger, more expensive locations. Can't wait for our next trip!
