“The fastest merry go round ever - hold on !”
Reviewed August 24, 2011

This is a perfect place for all ages . The variety of carousel animals is impressive ! In one corner was an older man who was doing some woodcarving and could answer any question you could dream of regarding the carousels . The shop had a nice selection of gifts and they were reasonably priced . Highly recommended ! A ride on the carousel is included with admission .

“Delightful museum”
Reviewed December 27, 2010

My friend and I stopped at this museum on our way from Cleveland to Toledo. She had heard about this museum and wanted to see it for a long time. It was very easy to find in the center of town. It is housed in a former post office, which is a round structure. They don't make buildings like this anymore. Inside, there is a small gift shop, and many new and antique carousel animals on display. In the center is an antique Merry-Go-Round that was found stripped of all the animals from the early 1900's?. New carousel animals were added and the Merry-Go-Round was restored to it's wonderful former glory with lights and music. As part of your inexpensive admission ($5-6?), a ride on the Merry-Go-Round is included. The museum also has items on display that are parts of private collections. There is also a small section where you can see craftsmen carving a horse out of wood. Every year the MGR Museum raffles off the carved horse that they have been working on all year on New Year's Eve. It is hand painted and a beautiful piece of art. It is worth approximately $6000.00. I know because I was last year's winner!! Chances are sold in the gift shop. This is a small, lovely museum that is definately worth the time. I'm a history buff so I really enjoyed seeing the antiques. The tour is short, maybe 10-15 minutes. All the tour guides are volunteers who just love working there. You can stay and linger for as long as you like after the tour. Something that was really cool to see was two carousel horses that appeared on US postage stamps. Images of the stamps are next to each of the horses. Be sure to see this lovely museum. There aren't many like this one around! Adults and children will both enjoy this. Check their website for hours.

“Go for the brass ring, and stop in at this one!”
Reviewed September 9, 2010

This unique museum is housed inside a grand looking old post office. When we were there they were hosting some visiting carousel animals, including a sea lion with two babies, a skunk, a bison, lions, a dog, and a cat - with a bird in its mouth. There was a collection of beautiful horses as well. Our guide was enthusiastic, pleasant, and clearly a carousel fan.

They sometimes have a man there carving one of the horses whom you can watch and talk to. That was not the case when we visited, but we enjoyed the tour and found it interesting.

They have a working indoor merry-go-round which visitors can ride on at the conclusion of their tour. This carousel had a bucking zebra, a running ostrich, a clothed frog, mystical dragons, stunning stallions and magical mares. You get the idea....come be a kid again.

Fun, not time consuming, and worth seeing.
